Panorama hosts Atlantic today

The Panorama baseball team (9-15) will welcome Atlantic (1-20) onto its home field today, Tuesday, July 2. Panorama won the last meeting between the two teams in 2021, 4-1. The Panthers are also on a two-game win streak, while Atlantic hasn’t marked the win column since its third game this season. Later this week on Wednesday, July 3, Panorama will host its senior night against Southwest Valley (9-14). This weekend, on Saturday, July 6, the Panthers will travel to Northview Park for a 1A substate matchup against Ankeny Christian (15-9).

A beautiful day for a farmers market — and some pancakes

The Guthrie Center Farmers Market was held June 29 from 9-11 a.m. on N. Fourth Street in downtown Guthrie Center, along with a pancake breakfast hosted by the ACGC FFA.

Three teens injured in crash June 28

The following information was released to the Times Vedette by the Panora Police Department regarding a recent vehicular accident in Panora.

On June 28, at approximately 6:26 p.m., the Panora Police Department, Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, the Panora Fire Department and Panora EMS were dispatched to the 400 block of N.E. Third Street in Panora for a single-vehicle rollover accident.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that a four-door passenger car that was driven by a 16-year-old was traveling northbound when it lost control and left the roadway and rolled into a field on the east side of the road. A 15-year-old backseat passenger was ejected from the vehicle. A 14-year-old front seat passenger was seriously injured due to the crash.

All three occupants were injured. The two passengers were transported to Des Moines-area hospitals by helicopter. The driver was transported to Guthrie County Hospital by Panora EMS.

No further details were available as of press time. 

Jeep loses control, rolls over on Andrews Terrace

Guthrie County Chief Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Bennett reported a single-vehicle accident occurring on June 26 at 9:22 a.m. on Andrews Terrace. Mason Joseph Sawyer, 18, of Coon Rapids was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on Andrews Terrace near Lake Panorama and attempted to make a turn into a driveway, losing control and rolling against a tree before coming to rest. Damage to the Jeep is estimated at $4,500. 

Traverse collides with gas pump at Sparky’s

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Blake Michelsen reported a single-vehicle accident occurring on June 23 at 11:12 a.m. at Sparky’s convenience store on Highway 44 in Guthrie Center. Kerry Ann Stonehocker, 49, of Linden was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse LT and backed into a gas pump, causing $50,000 in estimated damage to the gas pump and $4,000 to the Traverse. Stonehocker said she backed up and thought she saw someone in her peripheral vision and accelerated in reverse into the gas pump to avoid a potential collision.
