Panthers drop both games in Pleasantville triangular, 2-0

Panorama volleyball (3-7) traveled to Pleasantville High School on Saturday, Sept. 28 to participate in a triangular against Pleasantville (15-9) and Williamsburg (13-7). Panorama lost the first game against Pleasantville, 2-0, with 21-18 and 21-15 sets. In game two against Williamsburg, Panorama lost, 2-0, on 21-12 and 22-24 sets.

On Sept. 27, a total of 15 players participated. Rhonda Titus got two 16s and 3 20s. Lillian Gilson got a 24. Chet Vaughnaun, Bill Sheeder and Dan Webb each had a 16. Clint Malbon had a 16 and a 17. Allen Pierce got a 16 and a 20. John Byrd got a 24. Larry MGardiner pulled in a 20, and Kat Phippen had a 17.

On Sept. 30, a total of 18 players participated. Sandy Rumelhart got a 17 and two 20s. Bill Sheeder and Robert Klever each got a 24. Lillian Gilson and Chet Vaughan each had a 16, and Rhonda Titus got a 16 and a 20.

The Guthrie Center cribbage players generally meet at Guthrie Center Library on Mondays at 8 a.m., at the New Homestead independent living rec room at 8 a.m. on Wednesdays, and at the Guthrie Center Activity Center at 1 p.m. on Fridays. Organizers say there is always room for more, and they will be glad to teach you how to play. They play for quarters on Wednesday and Friday.

HAND CRAFTED. Richard Mitchell of Guthrie Center shows one of a set of dining room chairs he has made from walnut trees around town. Wood from this particular chair came from a tree at the Tom Reil residence. Mitchell has used other local wood to make a bedroom set, hutches and China cabinets.

QUEEN, KING CANDIDATES. The student body at Panora-Linden High School last week selected three king and queen candidates from members of the senior class. Coronation ceremonies will be Thursday night at the high school. Homecoming queen candidates are Susie Kemble, Kimberly Teale and Ann Thornberry. Vying for the title of king are Jeff Burchfield, Mike Donahey and Matt Knapp. Some new wrinkles have been added to the homecoming observance this weekend. P.L. CANDIDATES. One of these six girls will be named homecoming queen during coronation ceremonies Tuesday evening at the high school auditorium. Previously, the king and queen have been named either Thursday or Friday nights of homecoming week. The change is to provide the royal couple an opportunity to reign three days of homecoming week. Tuesday’s ceremonies will be preceded by a Chili Supper at the high school sponsored by the quarterback club. Candidates selected by the student body are seated from left, Sharon Veeder, Melanie Hotle and Nancy Bennink. Standing from left, are Kathy Turner, Debbie Hamling and Deby Wyss. King candidates are six seniors on the football team, Dave Arganbright, Greg Arganbright, Jerry Gallatin, Bruce Janssen, Dave McBride and Kerry Moylan.

Beaded wash watercolor 

Cathy Ballard, Kay Thomas, Valerie McCool, Jim Spradling and Rex Shooner participated in the beaded wash watercolor class on Sept. 29.

Mary Johnson taught a class on beaded wash using watercolor on Sept. 29 as part of three watercolor technique classes that are being taught. The next class involves negative painting and is Oct. 6.
