The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors held a budget work session on Jan. 25 to discuss the budgetary numbers for the upcoming fiscal year. Along with Auditor Dani Fink, the supervisors discussed the various expected expenses based on recent years.

Supervisor Steve Smith asked what the Education and Training line item funds are used for. Fink said that includes the county’s dues as a member of the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC) and various trainings and conferences offered through ISAC.

Fink explained that the county needs to have funds allocated in the Medical and Health Services line of the budget for the Medical Examiner, for autopsy of deaths that are medically unattended. For such items, the budgeted amount is difficult to determine beforehand, so the supervisors rely on historical data.

Fink said for the current fiscal year, “You’re probably pushing $20,000 and averaging $40,000 for an entire fiscal year.”

The next regular meeting of the supervisors will be Tuesday, Jan. 30. Attendees may participate in person or by calling 323-792-6123 and inputting conference ID 547029216#.
