Dorhout, Grambart named to University of Nebraska-Lincoln fall Deans’ List

More than 6,800 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students have been named to the Deans’ List for the fall semester of the 2023-24 academic year. Qualification for the Deans’ List varies among the eight undergraduate colleges and the Explore Center. Listed below are the minimum requirements for each entity and the name of its respective dean or director. All qualifying grade-point averages are based on a four-point scale and a minimum number of graded semester hours. Students can be on the Deans’ List for more than one college.

  • College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, 3.75; Dean Tiffany Heng-Moss.
  • College of Architecture, 3.75; Dean Kevin G. Van Den Wymelenberg.
  • College of Arts and Sciences, 3.7; Dean Mark E. Button.
  • College of Business, 3.6; Dean Kathy Farrell.
  • College of Education and Human Sciences, 3.75; Acting Dean Nicholas J. Pace.
  • College of Engineering, 3.5; Dean Lance C. Perez.
  • College of Journalism and Mass Communications, 3.7; Dean Shari Veil.
  • Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, 3.7; Dean Andy Belser.
  • Explore Center for undeclared, pre-engineering, pre-health and pre-law students, 3.6; Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Undergraduate Education Amy Goodburn.

Following is a list of area honorees, listed alphabetically by hometown, with their year in school, college(s) and major(s). Some international students are listed under their adopted hometowns in the United States. Some students chose not to be listed. Students in the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s College of Public Affairs and Community Service are listed in the UNO Deans’ List.

Conservation Coffees start Feb. 16 in Jefferson

Iowa Cover Crop, a local specialty seed provider, invites the local community to join them for a series of Conservation Coffees. These events will be held on Feb. 16 and Feb. 23, as well as March 1 and March 8, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at their location, 1669 N Ave. in Jefferson.

This come and go event is designed to bring together community members interested in farming, gardening, livestock, pollinators and birding. Participants will enjoy complimentary donuts, coffee and tea while networking and knowledge-sharing. The team at Iowa Cover Crop is excited to engage with the community, answering questions and providing valuable information on conservation practices and specialty seeds.

“We believe in the power of community engagement and shared knowledge. Our Conservation Coffee series is a way for our local community to come together, share experiences, and learn from each other,” said James Holz, Co-Owner of Iowa Cover Crop.

Cribbage results

The Guthrie Center cribbage players meet at Guthrie Center Library on Mondays at 8 a.m., at the assisted living rec room at 8 a.m. on Wednesdays, and at the Guthrie Center Activity Center at 1 p.m. on Fridays. Organizers say there is always room for more, and they will be glad to teach you how to play.

On Jan. 31, a total of 11 played. Gardiner, Elis, Evans and Titus all got one 16, and Roger Esbeck had a 16 and a 24.

Bunde and Young named to Central College Dean’s List

Central College recognized 408 students who were named to the Fall 2023 Dean’s List. The honor is awarded to full-time students who achieve a 3.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale while taking 12 or more graded credit hours for the semester. Alaina Bunde of Guthrie Center, Class of 2026, and Kylie Young of Guthrie Center, Class of 2025 were both named.
