Chargers fight hard against Lynnville-Sully in substate loss, 8-3

ACGC baseball (2-23) battled away from home against Lynnville-Sully (23-3) on Saturday, July 6. The Chargers tied the game, 1-1, at the top of the third inning. Lynnville-Sully quickly answered in the bottom of the third, taking the lead, 2-1, and adding two more runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead. ACGC attempted a comeback, scoring two runs in the sixth inning, but Lynnville-Sully answered back quickly again with four more runs, cementing its win, and the end of the Chargers’ season. RBIs for ACGC came from Andrew Mahaffey, Blaize Dorsey and Colton Clark. Tegan Slaybaugh spent the entire game on the mound for ACGC, throwing 102 pitches and striking out three batters.

Panthers blank South Central Calhoun in first round of regionals, 13-0

Panorama softball (8-21) started its 2A Region 4 campaign at home with a bang against South Central Calhoun (1-18) on Monday, July 8. The Panthers got on the board early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead by the end of the first inning. Panorama added three runs in the third and eight more in the fourth to reach that 13-0 scoreline. Panorama will have to face the team with the highest win percentage in its Region, East Marshall (29-4), in the next round. That game will be at East Marshall on Wednesday, July 10.

Panorama falls in first round of substate to Ankeny Christian, 4-1

Panorama baseball (10-16) competed in the first round of 1A substate at Ankeny Christian (16-8) on Saturday, July 6. Despite taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Panorama lost it in the bottom of the fifth inning, 3-1. Ankeny Christian would tack on one more run in the following inning, bringing the Panthers’ season to a close. Trey Boettcher was responsible for the Panthers’ lone run. In the low-scoring affair, Panorama was held to three hits, one single by Boettcher and two singles by Hunter Dishman. Dishman spent five innings on the mound, throwing 72 pitches, striking out two batters and holding Ankeny Christian to a .211 batting average.

MONEY FOR MONTEITH MOVE. Doug Hemphill, president of the Farmer’s State Bank of Yale, presented a $200 check to Betty Fox, a board member of The Turn of the Century Museum. The museum is accepting donations for the relocation and restoration of the Monteith Store. To date, $4,622 has been raised of the projected $10,000 costs.
