ACGC boys basketball tips season off against West Central Valley on Tuesday

The ACGC boys basketball team hits the hardwood for the first time this season at home against West Central Valley on Tuesday, Dec. 2. ACGC has had the upper hand on the Wildcats for some time. The Chargers have not lost a game to WCV since 2018, winning the last 16 in a row. This includes last season’s blowout wins of 82-57 and 79-39.

No. 8 ACGC girls basketball face West Central Valley on Tuesday

The No. 8 ACGC girls basketball (1-0) team hosts West Central Valley (0-1) on Tuesday, Dec. 2. ACGC is already off to a hot start with a victory over IKM-Manning, while West Central Valley fell to Creston by one point. ACGC has dominated this competition in recent history, winning the last six games in a row. This includes both games last season, where the Chargers won 48-27 and 48-30. 

A crisp and frosty Turkey Trot

Thanksgiving Day dawned with frosty but sunny conditions (18 F) for the sixth annual Reshape Turkey Trot 3-mile run/walk at Twin Vines Winery. After finishing, participants gathered indoors for muffins, coffee and hot chocolate. A total of 58 participants were involved.

Santa warms hearts in Panora

Although the north wind was naughty to the holiday light displays in the Panora town square on Tuesday and Wednesday, Santa arrived Wednesday evening to bring some jolly to town. The reindeer stayed home, so Santa arrived via a Panora firetruck.

Holiday season church services

This time of year, many local churches hold special services for Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas and/or New Year’s. Below is a partial listing. Additional services or updates can be sent to rich@gctimesnews.com.

Sunday, Nov. 30 – Bagley United Methodist (401 Main St.) will hold a “Hanging of the greens” service at 11 a.m. to start the Advent season.

Sunday, Dec. 7 – A live Nativity program will be presented on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at First Christian Church, 105 North Fourth St., Guthrie Center. A soup/sandwich supper will follow in the fellowship hall for a free will offering.

Sunday, Dec. 14 – On Sundy, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m., the public is invited to the Annual Sounds of Christmas event, featuring local church musicians, at Guthrie Center United Methodist Church, 405 Prairie St.

Sunday, Dec. 14 – There will be a Christmas program at First Baptist Church, 113 N. Fifth St., Guthrie Center, at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14.
