Panora Library events

  • Friday, Jan. 9, Lego Club will be offered at 2 p.m.
  • Thursday, Jan. 15, the winter reading challenge begins.
  • Thursday, Jan. 15 at 3 p.m., the Find Your Family Genealogy Club will meet. All are welcome.
  • Friday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan. 17, a puzzle and board game swap will be held at the library.

Rural Route and more in Jamaica Jan. 9

Just One More in Jamaica has live music by Rural Route 8-11 p.m. tonight, as well as the famous V Races beginning at 8 p.m.

Wild Game Feed and Raffle in Panora Jan. 10

First Christian Church (102 East Church St., Panora) will host a wild game feed and raffle event on Saturday, Jan. 10. The meal will be served 5-7 p.m., with the raffle to follow. Meal cost is $10 and raffle tickets are $10 each. Crossbows will be raffled off. For meal and/or raffle tickets, call Miles Boatman, 641-451-7862.

American Legion Chicken Dinner Jan. 18

The Guthrie Center American Legion (Post 124) will hold a fried chicken dinner on Sunday, Jan. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Legion Hall, 507 State St.  

Community Free Meal in Panora Jan. 21

Faith Bible Church (2096 Highway 4, Panora) welcomes everyone to come enjoy a free meal on Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The meal includes pulled pork on a bun, coleslaw, corn, macaroni casserole, cherry dessert and ice cream.  

Chili Cookoff and Bingo in Casey Jan. 24

Chili entries can be brought to the Casey Community Center 4-5 p.m. with a freewill dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m. Entries will be awarded in four categories (spiciest, most unique, best overall, and people’s choice). Bingo begins at 6:30 p.m.

Dueling Pianos in Adair Feb. 13

On Friday, Feb. 13, the Adair Chamber of Commerce will host the event to raise funds for Chuckwagon Days. The event will run from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Community Center (308 Stuart St.) in Adair. Cost is $40 pre-sale and $50 at the door. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be available. BYOB, and a limited amount of free beer will be available.

Celebrate the New Year with a First Day Hike at Springbrook State Park

Join the staff of Springbrook State Park on a free, guided hike on New Year’s Day. Hikers will meet at 1 p.m. outside the park office, for a 2-mile hike led by park staff. 

Hikers can expect to be surrounded by the quiet beauty of nature in winter, and experience spectacular views, beautiful settings and the cultural treasures offered by Iowa’s state parks. 2026 will bring the 100-year anniversary of Springbrook State Park. Hikers will be invited to enjoy cookies and hot chocolate afterwards. 

Springbrook State Park is located at 2437 160th Road, Guthrie Center.

Community Meal in Redfield Jan. 5

From 4:30 top 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, everyone is invited to a freewill donation community meal at the Redfield American Legion building, 1116 Thomas St., sponsored by the Redfield Fire Department. The Jan. 5 meal will include backdraft baked ziti, flashover salad, fireline breadsticks, and firefighters’ favorite desserts.

Paint your own mug Dec. 22

Art on State (320 State St. in Guthrie Center) will host a “Paint your own mug” event from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 22. Cost is $10 per person. Adults and kids 11 or older are welcome. Hot chocolate will be available.

Midwest Partnership annual dinner Jan. 29

Reservations are now being accepted for Midwest Partnership’s annual dinner. The event will be on Thursday, Jan. 29 at the Casey Community Center. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m., followed by the program at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $32 per plate. Reservations can be made by emailing info@midwestpartnership.com
