Panorama girls compete at Rich Gray Wrestling Invite

The Panorama girls wrestling team placed 13th with 36 points at the Rich Gray Wrestling Invite on Saturday, Jan. 24. Emma Walker (170) competed for a championship, falling to Ellie Hutton of I-35 in the finals. Gracie Recker (155) had the next best finish, placing fourth.

That concludes the regular season for the girls, whose next competition is the state-qualifying meet for Class 1A Region 2 at Colfax-Mingo on Friday, Jan. 30. The Panthers will wrestle against Central Decatur, Chariton, Clarke Community, Colfax-Mingo, Earlham, East Union, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Interstate 35, Kuemper Catholic, Martensdale-St Marys, Mount Ayr, Ogden, Saydel, Southeast Warren, Southwest Valley, Wayne and West Liberty.

Panther boys place 13th at John J Harris Tournament; Schwartz hits 100 wins

The Panorama boys wrestling team competed at the John J Harris Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 23-24, placing 13th among 22 teams. At the event, 2025 state qualifier Blake Scwartz earned his 100th career win. The highest placements for the Panthers came from Sam Hansen (106) and Blake Holman (113), who both placed sixth.

The Panthers compete in a quadrangular meet at Lynnville-Sully on Thursday, Jan. 29. Panorama will wrestle L-S, East Union and Pleasantville.

Charger boys fall to Clarinda, 70-37

The ACGC boys basketball team (6-9) lost at home to Clarinda (6-9) on Monday, Jan. 26. This ended the Chargers’ three-game win streak. Thomas Skram once again hit double-figure scoring with 10 points. Blaize Dorsey was the next-highest scorer with nine. Joe Fagan led the team in rebounds with five. Joe Crawford led in assists with five. The next game for the Chargers is on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at West Central Valley (10-5). WCV has a victory over ACGC already this season, winning a close 69-61 contest in early December.

Charger girls narrowly beat Clarinda, 62-58

The ACGC girls basketball team (13-3) survived a late comeback attempt by Clarinda (8-8) at home on Monday, Jan. 26. ACGC held a 13-point lead going into the fourth quarter. Clarinda outscored ACGC 23-13 in the final stanza, but that was not enough to complete the comeback. ACGC’s next game is at Interstate 35 (6-8) on Friday, Jan. 30. ACGC won the contest between these squads last season, 52-25.

ACGC girls defeat Panorama, 43-11

The ACGC girls basketball team (12-3) picked up a dominant victory over WCAC opponent Panorama (5-11) on Friday, Jan. 23. Stella Largent recorded another double-double with 12 points and an eye-popping 18 rebounds. Camdyn Richter joined her in double-figure scoring with 10 points, adding five rebounds and five steals. Meranda Gruber also had a solid performance with nine points, eight rebounds and two assists.

Chargers place 3rd at John J Harris Tournament; Richter and Cline win championships

The ACGC boys wrestling team competed against 22 other schools at the John J Harris Tournament last Friday and Saturday, Jan. 23-24. ACGC placed third as a team and won two championships. Ryder Cline (150) won in the championship match over Kalvin Hayes of Atlantic by decision. Carter Richter (215) won in the championship match over Wyatt Bell of Riverside, Oakland, by fall. ACGC also had two third-place finishes from Jack Sheeder (285) and Chase Slaybaugh (120). The next meet for the Chargers is tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 27, at home against Perry.
