QUEEN DAFFNIE AND COURT. Daffnie Kemble, daughter of Dennis and Linda Kemble, reigned as the 15th queen of Panora’s Panorama Days celebration last weekend. The queen, who will be a senior at Panora-Linden high school this fall, was crowned at Thursday’s pageant. IT’S ALL OVER. The swimming season came to an abrupt end Monday as lightning struck a motor that recirculates and aids in filtering at the local pool. Repairs cannot be made before the regular closing Sunday since parts are not available. Pool Manager Steve Smith gestures to Billy Flanery there’s nothing that can be done except wait till next year.

LEMONADE, COOKIES AND BROWNIES. Two sisters and a cousin joined the ranks of entrepreneurs on a recent Sunday afternoon and set up a lemonade stand along Highway 44 in Panora. The trio (from left) Maddelyn Richey, 8, Miyah Small, 5, and Laicey Richey, 6, welcome paying customer Jazmyn Sellers, 10. Laicey had the idea for the stand that sold lemonade, cookies and brownies. There was one donation jar for the refreshments and one for donations to help the Mark Johnston family as the school principal undergoes medical treatment for cancer. The girls were able to donate $100 to the Johnston family. Maddelyn said the stand really did well. One highlight was a Panora policeman stopping by for a purchase. All was done with the assistance and under the watchful eye of mother Lila Richey.

NEW SIDEWALKS. Businesses on the west side of Yale’s main street are getting new sidewalks, thanks to volunteer labor and financial assistance from the Centennial Committee. The business firms also are contributing. Ron Dygert, Alvin Clark and Dick Kunce formed the sidewalks Tuesday morning. Above, Lee McGee, Ron McGee and Dale Louk, background, level fill sand. McGee, a member of the city council, said the sidewalks being replaced are 70 years old.

STATE CHAMP. Kolby Schackelford, 13, of Panora won the 12-13 year old state championship at the Iowa PGA Junior Championship held last Thursday at the Lake Panorama National course. The Panorama eighth-grader-to-be posted a 73, well ahead of the next two finishers, who shot 85 and 86 respectively. Pictured are Gary Babcock, head pro at LPN; Colby Shackelford; Jackson Scarr, second, of West Des Moines; and Brock Sabaski of Brayton, third place. Will Babcock, Panorama high school golfer, tied for fifth in the 16-18 year old division, shooting 79. Juniors qualified for the tournament at six sites around the state.

SEASON ENDS. The Panora-Linden Hawks were eliminated from sectional tournament play by Adel last week, 3-1. Each team had four hits, and the Hawks had the tying run on before Adel forced a ground ball to end the threat. Panora-Linden finished at 11-9 for the year. Four Panorama boys played on the South Dallas Stars All-Star team this season, including (from left) Avery Norman, Preston Walker, Cooper Andersen and Dominic Walker. Cory Norman, also from Panorama, was the head coach for the South Dallas All Stars. The team went 1-3 with their win over the Marshalltown All-Stars.

The Batschelet family has donated the 120-year-old Batschelet and Thompson law office in Guthrie Center to the Guthrie County Historical Village Foundation to be moved to the museum complex in Panora.
