Panthers pick up first win in extra innings against Manson-NW Webster, 12-11

It took an extra inning, but the Panorama softball team (1-3) picked up its first win of the season against Manson-NW Webster (2-1) on Friday, May 24.

The two teams traded leads several times Friday night. Panorama went into the fifth inning up, 7-1, only to come out of it down, 10-7. Trailing 11-7 going into the final half inning, the Panthers rallied to score four runs and tie the game before finishing the game off in the eighth.

Arilyan Steenblock and Jaidyn Sellers both hit homeruns. RBIs were contributed up and down the order. Andrea Knode, Elah Malloy, Steenblock and Hannah Dishman all had two RBIs. Lindy Nelson, Bridgette Ewing and Sellers each had one. Hanna Smith reached base in all three of her at-bats with two singles and a double, scoring runs twice.

Jadyn Lawrence was awarded the win in her three innings on the mound. In addition to Steenblock’s homerun, she also pitched four innings, striking out six batters.

The girls’ next game is tonight, Tuesday, May 28 at home against Madrid.

Panorama alum Kolby Shackelford finishes as national runner-up at NAIA Golf Championships

On Friday, May 24, Panorama alum Kolby Shackelford was in a close contest for the NAIA Golf Championship. After shooting a 67 (-5), Shackelford forced a playoff with Juan Ricardo Davila Bone of Texas Wesleyan where he would lose, finishing as National Runner-Up.

Shackelford made his way up the leaderboard on the final day of the tournament. His six birdies on the afternoon saw him rise 12 spots in order to force the playoff. His 15 birdies across the tournament were the most of any golfer.

The junior performed at a high level for most of the season for the Ottawa University of Arizona golf team. During the season, he had three wins and six top-three finishes. After those performances and his placement in the National Tournament, Shackelford was named to the NAIA PING All-American First Team.

Proceeds from GCH Color Run and Health Fair to support Greenfield

The Guthrie County Hospital Foundation is hosting a Color Run on Saturday, June 1. The event will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Guthrie County Hospital Fitness Center. Registration is also at the Fitness Center/Rehab Services from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Entry fee for the 5K Run/Walk (ages 19 and older) is $35. The 5K Relay Three-Person Team (ages 19 and older) is $90. The 5K (18 and younger) and 1K Run/Walk (12 and younger) is $20. Entry fee includes a T-shirt and additional promo items. Deadline to guarantee shirt is May 27. 

The Guthrie County Hospital Health Fair is also on Saturday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Guthrie County Hospital Fitness Center/Rehab Services. Lunch is free and bingo is $1 per card.

All proceeds from both events will go to those affected by the recent weather events in Greenfield.
