ACGC football (10-0) hosts Tri-Center (9-1) at 7 p.m. tonight, Friday, Nov. 8, with a trip to the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls promised to the victor. The Chargers have experienced a ton of success in the past few seasons but have been unable to take the final leap to the state championship. In 2022, they went 7-3 with their season ending in the 1A second round. In 2023, ACGC went undefeated in the regular season before falling to Madrid in the quarterfinals. With another undefeated regular season in 2024, the Chargers are back in the quarterfinals.

It will be a clash of two play styles when the teams hit the gridiron. Tri-Center’s passing attack is one of the most potent in Class A. AJ Harder leads the class in passing TDs with 24 and passing yards with 2,233. Tri-Center also has a dangerous running back in Cater Kunze. He is tied with Riverside’s Jaxon Gordon for second in Class A rushing touchdowns with 31, a team Tri-Center beat in the second round by 45 points. Kunze’s 1,834 rushing yards ranks eighth in the entire state.

On the flip side, ACGC has arguably the best all-around run game in Class A, thanks to players such as Jathan South, Mike Fuller and Joe Crawford. Fuller and South have both crossed the 1,000-yard mark this season. As a team, ACGC is second in Class A rushing TDs with 48 and first in rushing yards with 3,820, 400 yards more than the team in second. When it comes to total offensive yards, ACGC is first with 4,379. In second is Tri-Center, behind by just 70 yards.
