Panorama boys spoil Ogden’s senior night, win 58-53; first round of playoffs begin Monday

The Panorama boys basketball team (2-19) defeated Ogden (4-17) away from home on Tuesday, Feb. 10. This was a back-and-forth game from start to finish. Panorama led at the end of the first quarter, 12-5. Ogden punched back, outscoring Panorama 16-9 in the second and tying the game 21-21. Panorama took a two-point lead by the end of the third quarter and extended its lead even more in the fourth to secure the close win.

The Panthers return to the court on Monday, Feb. 16 to face West Central Valley (12-10) away from home. Panorama lost both of its games against the Wildcats this season, 61-37 and 54-45.

Panthers dominate Ogden, 70-34; playoffs begin Tuesday

The Panorama girls basketball team (7-14) secured a confidence-boosting win at Ogden (2-20) on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Panorama had one of its best scoring quarters of the season right out of the gates, leading 24-7 at the end of the first quarter. Morgan Crees scored 23 points in the win, adding seven rebounds, four assists and six steals. Ines Gimeno-Perez with 16 points and Lexi Galvan with 15 points joined her in double-figure scoring. Galvan grabbed 12 rebounds to complete the double-double.

Panorama faces a tough test in the first round of the Class 2A Region 2 playoffs as the team travels to ACGC (17-4) on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The teams have squared off twice already this season with ACGC coming away victorious in both, 45-35 and 43-11.

A trip to state on the line for Panther wrestlers on Saturday

The Panorama boys wrestling team will compete at the IHSAA 1A District 7 tournament on Saturday, Feb. 4 in Ogden. The top two wrestlers from each weight class will qualify for the state championship tournament in Des Moines at the Casey’s Center from Feb. 18-21. Other teams competing at the district tournament are AGWSR, Janesville, Manson-NW Webster, Martensdale-St Marys, North Tama, Ogden, South Hamilton, West Central Valley and West Hancock.

Panthers to hire new head volleyball coach

Panorama announced it will be hiring a new head volleyball coach for next season. The Panthers were previously being led by Mollie Lint.

“It wasn’t an easy decision to leave the girls or the program, but I wish the girls nothing but the best of luck and success in their future seasons. I’ll always be cheering them on from the sideline,” Lint said.

Lint had been in charge of the program since 2022-2023. The Panthers were 33-74 under Lint but saw consistent improvement in each of her years, starting at five wins and eventually leading to back-to-back double-digit-win seasons the last two years.

ACGC boys drop game against Underwood, 72-36; playoffs start Monday against CAM

ACGC (9-12) was surging toward the end of the season but had the misfortune of facing two 17-win teams to end its season, losing this one at Underwood (17-4) on Thursday, Feb. 12.

ACGC’s next game is a first-round matchup in the 1A-8 bracket against CAM (9-13) at home on Monday, Feb. 16. ACGC defeated CAM in a game earlier this season, 69-54. The biggest Cougar threat for the Chargers is Collin Bower. The senior is leading his squad in all major categories, averaging 15 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

Chargers fall to Madrid, 80-59

The ACGC boys basketball team (9-11) lost to Madrid (17-4) at home on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Madrid jumped out to a 10-point lead by the end of the first and never looked back. William Skram led the Chargers in scoring with 16 points, hitting four three-pointers. Thomas Skram with 11 points, and Preston Kent with 10, joined him in double figures. Jonny Kading, Preston Kent and Joe Fagan jointly led in rebounds with four apiece. Kading and William Skram led in assists with three.
