Klinge is low scratch winner with a 32

On Aug. 11, a total of 43 women participated in the Panorama West Women’s Golf League. 

In the A Group, Kathy Klinge was the low scratch winner with a 32. The second low scratch winners were Emily Spradling and Sharon Wedemeyer with a 33. The HDCP winner was Kathy Klinge with a 32. The special event was most putts, and Audrey Sunner was the winner with 24. Emily Spradling and Sharon Wedemeyer had the fewest putts with 14.

In the B Group, the low scratch winners were Ann Chambers and Lori Hammer with a 39. The second low scratch winner was Donna Brody with a 41. The HDCP winners were Donna Brody and Lori Hammer with a 24. The special event was most putts, and Cheryl Howard was the winner with 24. Donna Brody had the fewest putts with 17.

Sharon Wedemeyer, Angie Worth and Lori Hammer each had one birdie. Karen Bump and Sharon Wedemeyer each had one chip-in. There were 39 pars.

Dunlop is low scratch winner with a 29

On Aug. 4, a total of 37 women participated in the Panorama West Women’s Golf League. 

In the A Group, Ai Dunlop was the low scratch winner with a 29. The second low scratch winner was Sharon Wedemeyer with a 36. The HDCP winner was Ai Dunlop with a 23. The special event was longest putt on No. 4, and Kathy Klinge was the winner. Ai Dunlop and Sharon Wedemeyer had the fewest putts with 15.

In the B Group, the low scratch winner was Angie Worth with a 41. The second low scratch winner was Janice Vandevanter with a 42. The HDCP winners were Cheryl Corbett and Angie Worth with a 26. The special event was longest putt on No. 4, and Sue Hendricks was the winner. Colleen Arneson and Toni Wright had the fewest putts with 15.

Angie Worth and Toni Wright each had one chip-in. Ai Dunlop had two birdies, and Shelli Larsen had one. There were 22 pars.

Guthrie County Swim Team places 2nd at conference championship meet

On July 11, the Guthrie County Swim Team completed its season with swimmers coming together from Guthrie Center, Panora, Jamaica, Yale, Stuart, Bayard, Bagley and all of Guthrie County. The team captured a second-place finish at the Iowa Western Swim Conference Championship meet. This concluded an 8-1 regular season record. The team also placed second for the regular season in the conference.

“There were 50 swimmers that qualified for the conference meet, which is almost 50% of the roster,” Head  Coach Dana Stein said. “Over 52% of our swims at the championship meet were top times, which shows how well and hard our swimmers prepared and swam.”

Stein said they had stellar seasons and performances from many swimmers in all age groups.

“I can’t tell you how proud I am of this team,” Stein said. “This group of swimmers worked together as a team. I talk about tradition and how many swimmers in the Guthrie County area have built this tradition, and they continue to carry it on and represent their team and community extremely well.” 

The team broke multiple records this past year:

  • Boys 8 and under Medley Relay: Cooper Strehle, Brylon Redfern, Landon Martinson, Layton Kinman
  • Boys 13/14 100 Freestyle: Cordell Wolfe
  • Boys 11/12 50 Fly: Graham Clark
  • Boys 8 and Under 100 Freestyle Relay: Landon Martinson, Layton Kinman, Brylon Redfern, Cooper Strehle
  • Girls 8 and under 25 backstroke: Fran Brelsford
  • Boys 8 and Under 25 Fly: Landon Martinson
  • Boys 11/12 50 Breaststroke: Isaac Armbrecht

Out of 117 swimmers on the team, only two were seniors: Collin Stringham and Elizabeth Drake.

“It is great to see the seniors having so much success in all the years they swam,” Stein said.

The coaching staff consisted of Head Coach Dana Stein, Assistant Coaches Emily Gray, Kena Baier, Mackenzie Campbell, Kiera Boals, Allison Drake and Elizabeth Drake.

Coach Stein stated that these coaches put in a lot of time and effort to help these athletes develop the skills that led to their success. 

“I can’t wait for next summer,” Stein said. “If anyone has any questions about the program, please do not hesitate to reach out.”

Stein also thanked the City of Guthrie Center for working with the team and supporting them this year. 

“It is a great representation of how proud this community is of the kids and this team,” Stein said. 

Crandall, Meinecke earn All-Conference; Meinecke named All-District Honorable Mention

Two Panorama baseball players earned honors at the conclusion of the 2026 season. Brayden Meinecke was named Honorable Mention for both the West Central Activities Conference and Class 2A Southwest All-District team. Cruz Crandall was named Honorable Mention to the WCAC Team.

Crawford competes in Iowa Shrine Bowl

ACGC’s star running back Joe Crawford represented the Black and Gold at the 54th annual Iowa Shrine Bowl as part of the South team. The All-Star game was hosted on July 25 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, with the North team prevailing, 17-7. A full stream of the game can be watched HERE. Crawford was wearing the same No. 4 as he does for the Chargers, this time, in blue and white. 

Boals and Kautzky named WCAC Honorable Mention

Two ACGC softball players earned individual honors from the West Central Activities Conference for their performances in 2026. Caydence Boals and Kailee Kautzky were both named Honorable Mention.
