TOURNAMENT CHAMPS. The Panorama Panthers eighth-grade girls won the Coon Rapids Lions Club Tournament Saturday. They beat Guthrie Center, 25-18, and Adair Casey, 38-26, to get first place. Point totals for the two games were Morgan Johnk with 26 points, Jamy Randol, 20, Olivia Richey, 8, Brooke Halterman, 6, Kennedy Kuta, 2, and Tasha Kirk, 1. The Panthers finished their tournament season with an impressive 13-5 record playing a lot of larger schools and AAU teams.

GCHS BOWLERS TO MUSCATINE. The Guthrie Center High School girls and boys bowling teams advanced to state competition in Muscatine April 22 due to their finishes in districts at Manning Sunday. The girls were first with 2,104 pins in a three-game scratch series, and the boys placed second with 2,460 pins in a three-game scratch series. Pote, who was born premature and spent his first 111 days of life in the hospital, walks every year in support of March of Dimes, an organization that helped save his life.

THE TOPIC IS TOURISM. Bike trails advocate and former Des Moines Register columnist Chuck Offenburger was the guest speaker last week at a meeting of the Panora Development Group PRIDE. He encouraged the organization to focus economic development efforts on the Raccoon River Valley Trail, which runs through the town and is used by some 60,000-100,000 persons annually.

The glasses will be given to preserve eyesight of deprived persons in the U. S. and around the world. Glasses can be deposited at the bank, Iowa Electric or the newspapers.

60 YEARS OF MARRIAGE. Jim and Beverly Arganbright were married on June 21, 1954. The Panora couple raised eight children — six boys and two girls — and joke they’ve stayed together all these years because there “just wasn’t a time to get loose.”

$50,000 AWARDED. Proceeds from the estate of Miss Elizabeth Hudson, Panora, were distributed last week by trustee Bill Bump, left front. The Turn of the Century Museum Foundation in Panora and the Panorama School District both received $19,165 while the Guthrie County Hospital was given $10,000. Money to the school and hospital were designated to assist in capital expenditures to link them with the Iowa Fiber Optic Communication Network. Money to the museum foundation is for capital improvement projects. Accepting the checks were Kay Campbell for the hospital, Alex Krueger of Bagley and Hugh Teale of Panora for the museum foundation, back left and center, and superintendent Bill Weddingfeld for the school. Miss Hudson was a former school teacher who operated the Panora Hotel from 1926 until its closing in 1984. She died in December 1985 at the age of 100.
