No. 4 ACGC narrowly defeats Mount Ayr, 28-20

The No. 4 ACGC football team (4-0) had its undefeated streak challenged at Mount Ayr (1-3) on Friday, Sept. 19. ACGC ended the first quarter leading 14-8, but went into halftime up by one, 21-20. A fourth quarter score gave ACGC the final cushion it needed. Joe Crawford ran wild in this one with 19 carries for 164 yards and two TDs. Angel Martinez also had 19 carries, his for 55 yards and two TDs. Three Chargers led in tackles, each with five: Xander Harwood, Kade Sorensen and Carter Richter. Sorensen had two tackles for a loss. ACGC recovered four fumbles during the game, two by Sorensen and one each by Chase Slaybaugh and Lane Stringer.

ACGC will have arguably its most difficult test yet at Madrid (3-1) on Friday, Sept. 26. Madrid defeated ACGC in their most recent meeting two seasons ago, 21-14.

Chargers go undefeated at home quadrangular

On Tuesday, Sept. 16, the ACGC volleyball team (11-4) hosted a quadrangular against South Central Calhoun (6-11), Greene County (5-7) and Panorama (3-6). ACGC won all three of its games, losing only one set in the process.

 

Vs. South Central Calhoun, 2-0 W

Against South Central Calhoun, ACGC won sets 21-13 and 21-20. Becca Littler recorded every assist for ACGC with 21. Stella Largent led in kills with 10. Camdyn Richter was a close second with seven. Ilana Baumert led on defense with six digs. Kailee Kautzky went a perfect 10/10 serving. Richter led in aces with three.

Vs. Greene County, 2-1 W

ACGC lost the first set of this match, the only one they would drop on the night, 21-19. The Chargers responded by winning the next two sets, 21-8 and 15-12.

Vs. Panorama, 2-0 W

ACGC won the two sets over WCAC rival Panorama, 21-9 and 21-15.

Panthers host West Central Valley tonight, encourage fans to wear pink

The Panorama football team (1-2) hosts West Central Valley (1-2) tonight, Friday, Sept. 19. Panorama lost to the Wildcats last season in a close 28-21 game but won the year before, 28-17.

The Panorama community has been dealing with a heartbreaking loss of a student, Savannah Mathias, who passed away last Saturday. The team will be wearing pink to honor her memory and is encouraging fans to do the same as a sign of remembrance.

Panorama Invite postponed to Oct. 2

The Panorama boys and girls cross country teams were slated to host the Panorama Invitational cross country meet on Thursday, Sept. 18. The meet was postponed due to inclement weather. The Panthers’ next meet is at ACGC on Thursday, Sept. 25. Other teams competing will be ACGC, East Union, Perry, West Central Valley, Tri-Center, Mount Ayr, IKM-Manning, East Mills, Exira-EHK, AHSTW and Lenox.

Panther volleyball wins 1, drops 2 at ACGC quad

The Panorama volleyball team (3-6) won one game and lost two at the ACGC quadrangular on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Against Greene County (5-6), despite losing 2-0, it was a close battle. Panorama lost the sets 21-19 and 21-18. Against South Central Calhoun (6-12), Panorama picked up the win, 2-1. Panorama dropped the third match to ACGC (11-4), 2-0, with the sets falling 21-9 and 21-15 in ACGC’s favor.

Panorama’s next game is at Des Moines Christian (5-10) on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Panorama invite postponed, ACGC hosts meet next Thursday

The Panorama Invitational cross county meet was postponed to Oct. 2 due to inclement weather. The next meet for the ACGC girls and boys cross country teams is Thursday, Sept. 25 when the Chargers will host East Union, Panorama, Perry, West Central Valley, Tri-Center, Mount Ayr, IKM-Manning, East Mills, Exira-EHK, AHSTW and Lenox.
