The speed limit on most two-lane highways in Iowa will increase from 55 mph to 60 mph, effective July 1, thanks to legislation signed by Gov. Reynolds.
Currently, there are estimated to be more than 5,000 speed limit signs on highways throughout Iowa indicating the current speed limit of 55 mph. Roughly one-third of those are the responsibility of the Iowa Department of Transportation, with the remaining two-thirds being county signs. The legislation allows for placement of temporary overlays on the current signage to indicate the new 60 mph.
