The ACGC baseball team (10-14) lost in the second round of substate at Woodbine (16-6) on Tuesday, July 8. Despite the loss, ACGC outhit the Tigers, 10 to seven.
Frustratingly for the Chargers, all of their 10 hits were singles. Seniors Taytum Bates and Noah Kading did their best to keep ACGC in the game, as Bates had two RBIs and Kading had one. Tommy Skram pitched the entire game for the Chargers, throwing six strikeouts and walking only one batter.
First year head coach Nick McCool shared his thoughts on the Chargers on social media: “I can’t thank our seniors and players enough for all they did this season. Also need to give a big, huge thank you to our parents who were absolutely amazing this year. Thank you for all the support you brought to our program. Losing is never easy, but our guys handle it with class. I’m excited about the future of ACGC baseball and where it can go,” McCool said.
Before McCool took over, ACGC won two games and finished at the bottom of the West Central Activities Conference. This season, ACGC won double-digit games, finished seventh in the conference, and won a playoff game.
