Chargers host quadrangular tonight, travel to Panorama on Thursday

The ACGC boys wrestling team hosts a quadrangular meet tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 16. ACGC will hit the mats against Pleasantville, Central Decatur and Earlham. Then, on Thursday, Dec. 18, the boys make the short trip to Panorama to face Ogden, Southeast Valley and Panorama in another set of dual matches.

Cline takes championship at Riverside Invitational

The ACGC boys wrestling team competed at the Riverside Wrestling Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 13. Ryder Cline (150) left the meet as champion, defeating Wade Hawkins of Logan-Magnolia in the first-place match. The next closest to a title for the Chargers was Carter Richter (215), who earned third place. Lane Stringer (157), Jack Sheeder (185) and Angel Martinez (165) all placed fourth in their respective weight classes.

No. 8 Chargers defeat AHSTW 64-32

The No. 8 ACGC girls basketball team (6-0) continued its undefeated streak to start the season at AHSTW (3-3) on Monday, Dec. 15. ACGC led going into the half, 29-15. The Chargers scored 24 points in the third quarter to give them an insurmountable lead over the Vikings.

The Chargers next game is on Friday, Dec. 19 at home against Panorama (1-4). The WCAC and nearby opponent leads the all-time series between the two schools, but ACGC got the better of the Panthers in both games last season, winning 61-40 and 54-35.

No. 8 ACGC blows out Ogden, 68-17

The No. 8 ACGC girls basketball team (5-0) handily defeated Ogden (0-6) at home on Friday, Dec. 12. ACGC had 28 steals thanks to its hounding defense that helped the team hold the Bulldogs to just 17 points. Camdyn Richter with 14 and Meranda Gruber with 12 reached double-figure scoring for the Chargers. Stella Largent led the team in rebounds with five. Becca Littler led the team in assists with five. In all, 10 different ACGC players scored in this game, and six players had four or more steals.

Panther boys win 1 dual, drop 2 at WCV quad

The Panorama boys wrestling squad traveled to West Central Valley for a quadrangular meet on Tuesday, Dec. 9. The Panthers left the meet with one win thanks to a tie-breaker, over Van Meter, 32-32. Panorama would lose the other duals to Earlham, 47-23, and host West Central Valley, 53-22.

The Panthers’ next competition is today, Friday, Dec. 12, when the team competes in the Dan Christensen Wrestling Invitational at Central Decatur. Other teams at the tournament are Albia

Bedford, Centerville, Central Decatur, Davis County, Humboldt, Martensdale-St Marys, Mid-Buchanan, Mount Ayr, Ottumwa, Red Oak, Southeast Warren, Van Meter, Wayne and Winterset.

Panther girls drop game to Earlham, 56-31

The Panorama girls basketball team (0-4) lost a home game to Earlham (4-0) on Tuesday, Dec. 9. The Panthers were down by 10 at halftime before a strong second half from the Cardinals gave them the win. Morgan Crees was most of the offense for Panorama in this game. The senior scored 20 points out of Panorama’s 31. Crees also led in rebounds with five, tied with Ruth Fett. Lexi Galvan led in assists with two.

Tonight, Friday, Dec. 12, will be the Panthers best chance yet to end their early-season skid as they travel to West Central Valley (1-3). Panorama and WCV split last season’s series 1-1 with Panorama winning one, 33-29, and WCV winning the other, 37-32.
