Submitted by Barb Rees Bachman, secretary/treasurer, Monteith City Council

Editor’s note: Monteith is an unincorporated community in Guthrie County. Residents in or around the area gather monthly to share updates on projects and celebrate milestones.  Following are the “minutes” from the affectionally named “Monteith City Council Meeting.” We are pleased to publish these as submitted.

The Jan. 14, 2025, meeting was held at Monteith Event Center. Eleven were in attendance (short due to some snowbirds and sickness).

Mayo, JD Kuster brought the meeting to order. We said the pledge of allegiance. Birthdays in January were Kathy Kuster and Jim Smith. No anniversaries. Prayers are going out to Bob Derry and family. And with so much sickness going around, we hope everyone stays healthy.

Natalie Derry and Jeff Derry took the decorations down from Guthrie Center City Park, Monteith Cemetery and Monteith City Park. Natalie brought them to the meeting. We went through them and got rid of some older pieces, and the rest were stored in the loft of the Monteith Event Center. Thanks go out to Jeff Derry and Natalie Derry. We tabled two items for a later date: Kilt Fest and Setting Date to Fix and Paint Christmas Decorations.

Upcoming activities:

  • 24 Zoning Commission 1 p.m. at Monteith Event Center
  • 29, Park and Rec do Valentine cards for three area nursing homes. Will meet 5:30 p.m. at Bachman’s home. Vanessa will have supplies for approximately 150 cards to decorate.

Next meeting will be Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. We will celebrate Valentine’s Day with dinner. Barb will provide lasagna and garlic bread. Vanessa Branson will make a salad. Deanne Sewell Sheley will make a veggie tray. Natalie Derry and Kathy Kuster will provide wine and dessert. Keep in mind for Feb. 11 a game called “What one thing would you change about your spouse?”
