Chargers lose in quarterfinals to Pleasantville, 3-2

The ACGC volleyball (20-11) season ended at home against Pleasantville (24-11) in the Class 2A Region 8 quarterfinals on Wednesday, Oct. 23. After losing the first set, 25-18, ACGC won back-to-back sets, 25-10 and 27-25, to take a one-set lead. Pleasantville would rally, winning the next two sets, 25-21 and 15-10, to win the matchup, 3-2. ACGC had made the regional final in the previous two seasons.

Chargers win state-qualifying meet, Kent and Sloss finish in top 10

The ACGC boys cross country team hosted, and won, the 1A state-qualifying meet on Thursday, Oct. 24, with 51 points. Preston Kent and Gavin Sloss both cracked the top 10 with their performances. Kent placed fifth in 17:50.80. Sloss was close behind, placing sixth in 17:58.60. Tate Fever nearly joined them, placing 12th in 18:41.90. Noah Kading placed 15thin 18:50.00. Jonny Kading placed 18th in 19:18.20. Brody Beeler placed 23rd in 19:36.20. Jameson Pfrang finished 48th in 21:04.40. As a result of their performance, ACGC will be traveling to Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge on Saturday, Nov. 2 for the 1A state meet.

ACGC wins state-qualifying meet, Campbell finishes 3rd

The Charger girls cross country team hosted the 1A state-qualifying meet on Thursday, Oct. 24. ACGC won the meet with 68 points, just edging out Panorama, which finished with 71. Ava Campbell continued her successful season with a third-place finish in 20:29.60. Cadence Petersen also earned a top-10 finish, placing 10th in 21:26.90. Jayla Hoover placed 14thin 22:22.90. Adalyn Benson placed 23rd in 23:05.10. Emmarae Ellis finished 31st in 24:29.50. Paige Van Meter finished in 33rd in 24:37.50. Lillie Lauzon rounded out the Chargers winning performance, placing 35th in 24:55.80. The result sends ACGC to the 1A state championship meet at Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge on Saturday, Nov. 2.

ACGC takes on Wayne in Class A first round tonight

ACGC football (8-0) rolls into the postseason with an undefeated record for the second time in two years. In its Class A first-round matchup, the Chargers will face Wayne (5-3) at home tonight, Friday, Oct. 25, starting at 7 p.m. If you are unable to attend the game, expect it to be streamed on the ACGC Chargers YouTube channel, HERE. Several Chargers will be worth keeping an eye on. Jathan South is second in the A-7 district in touchdowns with 24. Mike Fuller is fourth with 12. Joe Crawford’s four receiving TDs rank second. Crawford (1,173), Fuller (1,002) and South (955) rank third, fourth and fifth in all-purpose yards. Wayne’s most dangerous player is QB Karter Murphy. Murphy has 629 passing yards and six TDs and leads his team in rushing with 1,104 yards and 16 TDs.
