ROLE REVERSAL. During an in-service day last Friday at Guthrie Center High School, teachers took classes including one on “Beginning Internet.” In foreground is Sue Slater of Guthrie Center. Other class sites were Audubon, Coon Rapids-Bayard and Manning High School. The four area schools comprise the Western Consortium Staff Development, which will meet three times this school year.

Panorama travels to West Marshall tonight

The Panorama football team (0-5) travels to West Marshall (3-2) tonight, Friday, Oct. 2. Panorama has lost each of its three games to West Marshall since 2012, including last year in a 51-7 result. Panorama will try to contain WM’s Blayk Hart, who has 633 rushing yards and eight TDs.

Panthers sweep Griswold, 3-0, to compete in Madrid Pink Out Tourney on Saturday

The Panorama volleyball team (9-8) went back above .500 after defeating Griswold at home on Thursday, Oct. 1. The first set was a close 25-19, but Panorama dominated the final two, both 25-16, to secure the sweep.

Nerea Gimeno-Perez led the Panthers with 13 assists. Kills were spread out with Ruth Fett and Ashley Crees leading with seven. Jessica Randol was close behind with six. Lexi Galvan led in digs with 14, though seven Panthers had multiple digs, making a team effort on defense. Gimeno-Perez also led in aces with four. Galvan and Crees both had three.

The team looks to build on the win when they travel to the Madrid Pink Out Tournament at Madrid on Saturday, Oct. 3. Other teams competing will be Ankeny Christian, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Des Moines East, Earlham, Madrid, Ogden, Panorama and Webster City.

Panthers win 1, drop 2 at home quadrangular

The Panorama volleyball team (8-8) picked up one win and lost two at the Panorama quadrangular on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Panorama defeated South Central Calhoun (12-12), 2-0, and lost against ACGC (24-5), 2-1, and Greene County (13-6), 2-0.

For the second time this season, the Panthers took a set off of ACGC and made it a close contest against the best team in the WCAC. Hailey Hellman and Nerea Gimeno-Perez led in assists with 10 apiece. Leah Carstens and Gracie Recker led with seven kills each. Danica Isom had three blocks to lead the Panthers. Recker added two and Ashley Crees one. Lexi Galvan led in digs with 16. Gimeno-Perez and Andrea Knode had one ace each to lead.

The lone win on the night for the Panthers was a dominant one. Gimeno-Perez led in assists with 10. Crees led in kills with six. Carstens, Jessica Randol and Ruth Fett were close behind with four each. Carstens and Fett had two blocks each to lead the team. Gimeno-Perez had the most digs with seven. Knode led in aces with three.

Panorama battled in the second set but would ultimately fall in two to Greene County. Hellman and Gimeno-Perez led in assists with six apiece. Randol had the most kills with six. Crees had the team’s lone block. Every Panther had a dig in this game; Galvan led them with nine. Hellman and Knode had one ace each.
