Walker and Klingenberg earn 2nd place at Perry Invite

Panorama girls wrestling traveled to Perry High School to compete in the Perry Girls Wrestling Invite on Friday, Jan. 17. Two Panthers made the final round: Emma Walker (170) lost in the championship to Briar Blake of North Tama. Hali Klingenberg (235) lost to Aubrey Borcherding of Dallas Center-Grimes. Several Panthers placed in the tournament. Gracie Recker (155) placed third. Ella Carico (100), Natalie Waltz (110) and Dafne Hernandez (140) all placed fourth. Piper Downing (130) placed fifth. Emma Brown placed sixth. Panorama will compete in two duals tonight, Jan. 21, at South Central Calhoun against the host and Woodward-Granger.

Cooper, Schwartz, Christe take 2nd, Kirtley and Knapp 3rd at WCAC Tournament

Panorama boys wrestling competed at the West Central Activities Conference Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 18 at Interstate 35 High School. Three Panorama wrestlers made the championship matches but were unable to walk away with wins. Joel Cooper (285) placed second, losing the championship round matchup to Zach Teague of West Central Valley. Laine Christe (113) lost the championship round matchup to Quinn Arellano of Van Meter. Blake Schwartz (165) lost to Angel Martinez of ACGC. Two wrestlers earned third place. Landon Kirtley (138) won the third-place match over Lane Stringer of ACGC. Will Knapp (150) won the third-place matchup over Henry Gelner of Interstate 35. Sam Hansen (106) placed fifth. Syler Shaffer and Nate Spencer competed but did not place. Tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 21 is senior night for Panorama wrestling. The team will host a quadrangular meet against Harlan Community, Colfax-Mingo and CAM.

Panthers’ late rally not enough to defeat Ankeny Christian, 88-76

Panorama boys basketball (2-11) hosted Des Moines Christian (9-4) on Monday, Jan. 20. Panorama let the game get away early on, trailing by 18 heading into the second half. The Panthers outscored Des Moines Christian in the fourth quarter 31-16 to bring the game within 12 points. The boys face West Central Valley (2-12) away from home, tonight, Jan. 21. The Panthers and Wildcats are struggling for success this season and will aim to use the other to spur some momentum into the back half of the season. Panorama and West Central Valley have already faced each other once this season, with the Wildcats coming away with a 55-48 win.

Panorama boys drop game to Van Meter, 79-55

Panorama boys basketball (2-10) lost its away game to Van Meter (7-4) on Friday, Jan. 17. The Panthers had a strong second half, outscoring Van Meter, 21-20 in the third quarter to keep the game from getting too out of hand.

Panorama girls win close game with Ankeny Christian, 43-42

Only one point separated these two when the final whistle sounded with Panorama girls basketball (9-4) victorious over Ankeny Christian (11-3) on Monday, Jan. 20. The game was close from start to finish. Panorama held a three-point lead at halftime. Faith Recker led the Panthers in scoring with nine points. Kelsey Laabs had a solid performance with eight points and a team-high six rebounds and five steals. Morgan Crees had eight points and seven assists. Panorama will travel to West Central Valley (10-5) High School tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 21. Last night’s win puts Panorama at 3-2 in their last five games. Meanwhile, the Wildcats have won six straight. Panorama and West Central Valley have played once already this season with the Panthers coming out on top in a close contest, 33-29.
