LIHEAP application accepted starting Nov. 1

Applications will be taken starting Nov. 1 for the 2025-2026 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This program is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services through the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, Community Access and Eligibility Division, Community Action Agencies Unit, and has been established to help qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs.

The Community Action Agency, New Opportunities, will be taking applications from Nov. 1, 2025, through April 30, 2026, (Oct. 1 for households with an elderly/disabled member). LIHEAP customers will need to furnish some form of identification, a copy of their most recent heating and electric bill, and proof of all household members’ gross income for the past 30 calendar days, the most recent 12 months, or for the past calendar year. The LIHEAP program is not designed to pay a household’s total energy costs. The program will provide supplemental assistance based on several factors, including total household income, household size, dwelling type, and type of heating fuel, among others. Eligibility for participation is established according to the following federal income guidelines:

Panorama volleyball travels to Des Moines Christian tonight

The Panorama volleyball team (3-6) faces Des Moines Christian (7-14) away from home tonight, Tuesday, Sept. 23. Panorama has yet to record a win against the Lions in their 18 games against each other. However, Des Moines Christian has struggled this season, losing its last four games.

Panthers fall to West Central Valley, 22-14

The Panorama football team (1-3) dropped its game against West Central Valley (2-2) on Friday, Sept. 19. Cruz Crandall continued to play under center for the Panthers. He went 8/23 in the air with 130 yards, one TD and one INT. Five passes were caught by Reed Draper for 84 yards and one TD. Latyn Ashworth caught two passes for 44 yards. Gavin Lindstrom caught one for two yards. Austin Wagner had a solid day on the ground with 21 carries for 73 yards. The other score for Panorama came from Ashworth on an electric 81-yard kick return. Brayden Meinecke was active on defense with a game-high 8.5 tackles including one for a loss.

Panorama’s next game is at Interstate 35 (2-2) on Friday, Sept. 26. The series is tied 3-3 between the teams since 2014. I-35 has won the last two with the most recent being a 47-0 win for I-35.
