Guthrie Center Park Holiday Lights presented more than 2,600 lights

More than 90 displays and 650 water-filled milk jugs with 2,600 lights were set up as part of the 32nd annual Guthrie Center Park Holiday Lights at Mitchell Park during the holiday season. A surprise this year was south of the water plant where the Guthrie Center Utilities Board had a 40-foot wire tree with lights of various colors.

 “Many thanks to you all for putting up your displays to help make our city park ‘shine’ more than ever. The 32nd year turned out to be our best ever,” Mary Jo Laughery said on behalf of the committee that put on the event.

Fett named to honors list at Concordia University

Leah Fett of Panora was one of 267 Concordia University, Nebraska students recently named to the honors list for the Fall 2025 semester. Students must earn a 3.90 GPA or higher while also completing a minimum of 12 credit hours to be eligible for this list.

Cribbage results from Jan. 21

On Jan. 21, a total of eight players participated. Dick Ellis got a 16, 17 and 16; Wayne Nickel got a 17, 16 and 17, Sandy Rumelhart got a 24 and a 16; Robert Klever got a 17 and a 16; Lela Schwartz got a 17 and a 16; and Dennis Betts got a 16.

The Guthrie Center cribbage players generally meet at Guthrie Center Library, 400 Grand St., on Mondays at 8 a.m. and at the New Homestead independent living dining hall, 2306 State St., at 8 a.m. on Wednesdays and at 1 p.m. on Fridays. Organizers say there is always room for more, and they will be glad to teach you how to play. They play for quarters on Wednesday and Friday.

Panorama boys lose to West Central Valley, 54-45

The Panorama boys basketball team (1-13) lost its home game to West Central Valley (10-5) on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Two Panthers reached double-figure scoring. Bryce Dawes led the way with 12 points, and Cruz Crandall was second highest with 10 points. Brayden Galvan scored nine and led the team in assists with four. Reed Draper led the team in rebounds with seven.

Panorama’s next game is at home against ACGC (5-8). The Chargers have won the last three games against Panorama, including one earlier this season, 59-45.

Panther girls secure victory over West Central Valley, 43-30

The Panorama girls basketball team (5-10) won back-to-back games for the second time this season after defeating West Central Valley (5-10) at home on Tuesday, Jan. 20. This was a back-and-forth contest, but the Panthers outscored WCV 12-5 in the final quarter to pull away. Morgan Crees led the team in points with 16 and rebounds with seven. Ashley Crees and Ines Gimeno-Perez were the next highest scorers with seven each. Lexi Galvan led the team in assists with three.

The next game for the Panthers is tonight, Friday, Jan. 23, against ACGC (11-3). The Panthers lost the last three games against the Chargers, including one contest earlier this season, 45-35.
