Holiday Showcase through Nov. 8
The annual Holiday Showcase in Panora, Casey and Guthrie Center is running now through Nov. 8 to encourage residents and visitors to kick off their holiday shopping. Hours are Friday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participating businesses will have specials and drawings for prizes.
Holiday Raffle and Dinner in Dexter Nov. 7
The Dexter Acts of Kindness 13th annual holiday raffle (in association with Post No. 419 Dexter American Legion) will be Friday, Nov. 7 at 727 Marshall St. Doors open at 4 p.m. with dinner 5-6:30 p.m. or until gone. Meal includes pulled pork and loose meat sandwiches, along with sides and dessert for sale by the Legion and Auxiliary. Raffle drawing will be at 7 p.m.
Little Charger “Ignite the Future” Fundraiser Nov. 8
On Saturday, Nov. 8, the Little Charger ELC will hold a fundraiser event at the Guthrie Activity Events Center (209 State St., Guthrie Center). Tickets cost $50 and can be purchased at Guthrie County State Bank or from any Little Charger board member (Bethany McCool, Becky Wahl, Samantha Rosenbeck or Erica Finster) or from the Little Charger Facebook page. The event will begin with happy hour 5-6 p.m. Live music by Burnin’ Sensations will play, and Café on the Hill will serve dinner at 7 p.m. There will be live and silent auctions of various gift baskets and items.
Pre-winter hike at Springbrook Park Nov. 8
Join a guided one-hour hike to see how nature prepares for winter, then gather around a cozy fire to enjoy pudgy pies. The event is set for 1-3 p.m. and is free, but email anne.riordan@dnr.iowa.gov or call 641-295-6028 to register so organizers know how many to expect. Meet at the campground gazebo and dress for the weather.
Dinner, Dessert Auction and Raffle in Stuart Nov. 8
The Veterans Memorial Fundraiser will be 5-8 p.m. at American Legion Post 146 Hall, 323 S.W. Second St. in Stuart. The freewill donation meal includes pork loin, pasta salad, cheesy hashbrowns, baked beans, roll and drink. Veterans eat free. The auction and raffle will begin at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds will help fund a granite veterans’ memorial.
Yale Craft Sale Nov. 8
On Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., a craft and vendor sale will be held at the Yale Community Building. Thirty local crafters and vendors are expected.
Free breakfast buffet for veterans and active military Nov. 9
All veterans and active military are invited for a free breakfast buffet on Sunday, Nov. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon at Café on the Hill , 2003 State St. in Guthrie Center. Everyone is welcome to attend. Breakfast is $13 for those who are not veterans or active military. This event is provided by American Legion Auxiliary and Café on the Hill.
Casey Methodist Church harvest dinner Nov. 9
On Sunday, Nov. 9, the Casey United Methodist Church (100 E. Second St.) will hold a harvest dinner 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal will include a Windsor chop (thick-cut, bone-in pork chop), mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad, roll and pie. Cost is $12 for adults, $6 for kids 10 and younger and free for preschoolers. Take-out orders will be from 9-10:30 a.m. For local deliveries, call 641-746-2210.
Guthrie Center American Legion to hold Chili and Oyster Stew Dinner Nov. 11
The Guthrie Center American Legion Chili and Oyster Stew Dinner will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11 from 5-7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall at 507 State St. in Guthrie Center. Use the ramp between Guthrie Center Family Medicine and Guthrie Center Post Office. The public is welcome. Veterans eat for free. All others are a free will offering. Arrive early, as the oyster stew goes quickly.
Veterans Day Soup Supper Nov. 11
The Omar B. Shearer American Legion Post No. 124 welcomes the public to the soup supper 5-7 p.m. at the Guthrie Center American Legion Hall (507 State St.). Oyster stew and chili will be available. Veterans eat free, others by freewill donation. Carryouts are available.
Panora Christmas Lighting Set-up Nov. 13
At 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, helpers are needed to hang lights at the Panora town square.
Veterans annual pancake breakfast Nov. 15
Support local veterans and enjoy a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Captain’s Pick at 5071 Ridge Road at Lake Panorama. Breakfast will be served from 8-11 a.m. This is a good will offering with all proceeds going to VFW Post 5510 and American Legion/Sons of American Legion Post 372.
A Giving Christmas Holiday Cruise Nov. 15
Decorate your golf cart, ATV, Jeep, etc. and help spread holiday cheer as you cruise the roads of Lake Panorama on Saturday, Nov. 15. Lineup starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Captain’s Pick with the cruise beginning at 6 p.m. Prizes for best decorated vehicle (personal and business) and best ugly sweater. Potato Bar and Bake Sale Nov. 20 in Guthrie Center
The Guthrie County Hospital Auxiliary’s Potato Bar and Bake Sale will be Thursday, Nov. 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Guthrie Activity Center, 209 State St. Carryouts are available. The potato bar meal will be offered for a freewill donation.
Happy Trails for Coffman and Lake
On Monday, Nov. 24, The New Homestead (2306 State St. in Guthrie Center) will hold a “Happy Trails” retirement party for longtime staff members Deb Coffman and Don Lake. The event will be 2-4 p.m., and the public is welcome.
Santa visits Panora Nov. 26
On Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 5:30 p.m., Santa Claus will be at the Panora town square and gazebo to see the lighted decorations at the town square and to start spreading holiday cheer.
Turkey Trot Nov. 27 in Panora
Reshape Fitness Studio’s sixth annual Turkey Trot 3-mile walk/run will be held on Thanksgiving morning at 7:30 a.m. The event will be held at Twin Vines (2821 Highway 44) and the all-terrain course offers panoramic views of Guthrie County. Registration costs $35 through Oct. 31. After that, registration costs $40 through Nov. 22. After that, registration will cost $45. Pre-registered entrants will receive turkey swag. Holiday baskets auction Dec. 5 in Guthrie Center
On Friday, Dec. 5, a silent auction fundraiser will be held at The New Homestead (2306 State St.). Bidding will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Basket donations will be accepted through Nov. 17.
Breakfast with Santa in Panora Dec. 6
On Saturday, Dec. 6 from 8:30-11 a.m., a freewill donation pancake breakfast will be held at the Panora Community Center (115 W. Main). The Camp Candycane craft event will be 9-10:30 a.m.
Redfield Winterfest Dec. 6
Celebrate winter in Redfield on Dec. 6 at West Central Valley Middle School. A craft fair, silent auction and cookie walk run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids shop for free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Santa visits at 1 p.m. Then head over to Legion Hall and City Park for the lighting. The chili competition drop-off is at 3:30 p.m. with the judging beginning at 4 p.m. The tree and holiday display and lighting of the park occurs at 5 p.m. The chili feed runs from 5-7 p.m. for a free will donation. At 6:30 p.m., the silent auction ends. At 7 p.m., the lighted parade begins.
