During the Guthrie County Board of Supervisors meeting on Aug. 11, the supervisors held discussion about the Lake Panorama Association request for speed limit review on county roads 200th Street and Redwood Avenue.
Supervisor Maggie Armstrong summarized the situation.
“We did get a letter from the Lake Panorama Association after their last board meeting, requesting that we take a look at those roads,” Armstrong said. “The concern is now with allowing highways to go from 55 mph to 60 that this would be taken under consideration to not go to 60. The letter cited safety.”
After discussion, the supervisors voted to keep the speed limit at 55 mph on the two roads. Signs will be posted to note this.
County Engineer Josh Sebern updated the supervisors on the county’s main TIF project, the P28/Wagon Road project between Panora and Stuart.
“They just finished asphalt. They’re still shouldering. The road’s still closed,” Sebern said.
Sebern shared a drone photo of the Sutcliffe Woodland bridge project southwest of Guthrie Center.
“They got the deck poured yesterday. It’s 127 yards,” he said. “It went really good.”
Armstrong explained the situation in which Audubon County has proposed a 28E agreement for Guthrie County to provide support regarding Veterans Affairs.
“Audubon County is currently in need of Veterans Affairs services. I think Beth (Watson) has been helping them out already quite a bit to keep them in compliance. It’s come to the point now where we should put a formal agreement in place, and we should talk about compensation,” Armstrong said.
Armstrong explained she consulted with County Attorney Charles Abel, and a fee of $25,000 would be included in the proposed 28E agreement. The supervisors voted to approve the proposed 28E agreement as written.
Auditor Dani Fink discussed a proposed fiscal year 2026-2027 budget amendment. A public hearing on the matter is set for Aug. 25 at 9 a.m.
