During the Sept. 1 meeting of the Guthrie County Board of Supervisors, the supervisors took action aimed at keeping speed limits no higher than 55-mph on three roads near Panora. The supervisors voted to send a letter of support to the Iowa Department of Transportation to maintain the 55-mph speed limit on Highway 4 north of Panora, from city limits to the Church of the Brethren corner. It was noted that the LPA (Lake Panorama Association) and the city of Panora are also in agreement with the county on this request. Supervisor Maggie Armstrong will draft the letter and bring it to next week’s supervisors meeting.
Armstrong shared what she had learned about the status of roads being recommended for exceptions to the statewide change to 60-mph on most highways.
“I had reached out to the director of our region for the Iowa DOT, and I ended up talking to the deputy director,” Armstrong said. “They have a list of the state highways they are checking off to see if they should go to 60 or not go to 60. So, this particular stretch is on their radar, because of the makeup of the road, the lake entrances, even the grade of it.”
The supervisors also voted to approve two resolutions regarding keeping the speed limit at 55-mph on 200th Street and Redwood Road. Resolution 27-08 (200th Street speed zone) and Resolution 27-09 (Redwood Road speed zone) were unanimously approved.
The supervisors approved Resolution 27-06 (budget amendment) and Resolution 27-07 (budget appropriation), which they had discussed the week before.
