The Guthrie County Youth Foundation is accepting applications for scholarships from the Class of 2027. Students who plan to further their education in two or three-year programs that are in vocational, technical or medical fields are urged to apply. Applications are available from the high school guidance counselors.
The scholarships are funded by $30 yearly memberships paid by individuals, businesses and organizations in and serving Guthrie County. Additional donations are always welcome and appreciated.
Directors of the Foundation are: Matt Pearey, president; Pam Grow of Bagley, vice president; Luann Waldo of Panora, secretary/treasurer; Lori Christensen of Stuart; and Jade Irlmeier of Adair (who replaced the late Forrest Schnobrich). The directors are responsible for soliciting memberships and are collecting the annual fees now.
There were 26 scholarship applications for 2026. Eighteen students were selected to receive awards. The Eddie McCartney Memorial Scholarships of $350 will be awarded six students. Twelve students will receive Guthrie County Youth Foundation scholarships of $400.

Adair Casey / Guthrie Center:
- Savannah Akers, $350
- Tanner Downing, Karli Kautzky, Leaya Klemish, Kaylee Oberholtz, Camdyn Richter and Brennan Tunink, $400
Coon Rapids-Bayard:
- Malia Clayburg, $350
- Kally Wiskus and Katie Wiskus, $400
Panorama:
- Lillie Arganbright, Latyn Ashworth, Jemma Meacham and Elah Molloy, $350
- Latyn Ashworth and Alexis Wasson, $400
West Central Valley:
- Jorie Handy and Emma Sand, $400
The scholarships will be paid in early 2027 following the submission to Waldo of successful completion of the first semester of college. Directors are now soliciting memberships for the 2026/27 year. The payment of $30 per year funds these scholarships to help “our” students further their education in various fields including welding, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, automotive, nursing, lab tech, dental, powerline, radiology, agriculture, criminal justice, diesel mechanics, physical therapy, exercise science and other vocational fields.
