New exhibit in lobby gallery of the Warren Cultural Center
A new exhibit titled “Preform” by John Bybee of Burlington is now in the Lobby Gallery of the Warren Cultural Center through November. Bybee is currently a Professor at Southeastern Community College in Burlington. Bybee chose the title “Preform” to describe his work as an approximation in search of a solution. It functions much like a stone preform before it is flint knapped into a Clovis spearpoint. The exhibit includes both pottery and two-dimensional work.
Rooted in the experience of loss, the abstract charcoal drawings reflect what it feels like to exist out of context after losing someone close. In contrast, the narrative drawings featuring animals offer a satirical take on mythologies. The long wooden vertical pieces and pine log and paper sculpture draw inspiration from agricultural core samples observed in an academic setting. The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday through Saturday.
