The sixth annual Raccoon River Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s was held in Panora Oct. 3 with 28 registered participants. The walk began at the Michael Mills Memorial Park. The 2-mile route had walkers head east from the park, north to the Raccoon River Valley Trail, and south on the trail before looping back to the park.

These Alzheimer’s Association fundraising walks are held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide.

While there was no fee to register for the walk, all were encouraged to raise funds. At the time of the walk, about $6,000 had been raised. That total may increase as additional donations are received and processed.

The Alzheimer’s Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.

As the Alzheimer’s Walk got underway, participants placed spinning flowers in a Promise Garden with each of four colors representing the relationship the person has with Alzheimer’s.

Pre-walk instructions and thanks are given to registrants.
