Roger Dorr

During the regular meeting of the Panora City Council on Oct. 12, City Administrator Lisa Grossman explained that she received a resignation from councilmember Roger Dorr, effective Oct. 23. She said the council’s consensus seems to be to appoint a replacement to fill out the remainder of Dorr’s term.

The council agreed to have Grossman publish a notice that the city is accepting letters of interest from anyone who would like to be considered for the position and that the council tentatively plans to appoint a replacement at the Oct. 26 regular meeting.

The council reviewed a request from Gene Shook to discharge firearms within city limits. Councilmember Mark Sheeder said the form was created by the city to consider requests for goose hunting, but he said this request is for deer hunting.

“It’s not going to be birdshot,” Sheeder said.

The council voted unanimously to deny the request.

Galen Redshaw addressed the council on behalf of Lutheran Church of Hope. He thanked the council for approving the zoning request to allow the church to be built on the eastern edge of Panora.

The council approved purchase of a computer upgrade for the city’s water plant at a cost of $90,655. The upgrade is needed because the current system will become obsolete in 2027.

The next regular meeting of the council will be Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m. The public is welcome. Interested persons may attend in person or electronically by visiting the website https://meet.goto.com/cityofpanora or by phone 1-312-757-3121 (Access Code 295-099-701, Audio PIN 220#).
