This time of year, fall and harvest events abound — and holiday events are approaching, too. Below are some upcoming events in or near Guthrie County.

Scholastic Book Fairs at Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center through Oct. 30

The Scholastic Book Fairs in the Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center Elementary School libraries run through Oct. 30. Books are available for students in preschool through eighth grade. Family events will be held in conjunction with parent-teacher conferences on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 4-7 p.m., and Thursday, Oct. 30 from noon to 4 p.m. The Teachers’ Wish Lists will be available for families that would like to purchase books for classrooms. Shop online here for Guthrie Center Elementary or here for Adair-Casey Elementary. This is a great way for out-of-town relatives to purchase Christmas gifts or create online e-wallets to be spent at the fair. Cash, credit cards, e-wallets and checks are accepted.

Library Boo Bash in Guthrie Center Oct. 30

The Mary J Barnett Library (400 Grand St., Guthrie Center) will hold a Halloween-themed event from 5-7:15 p.m.

“Trick or Eats” Oct. 30

Members of the ACGC High School National Honor Society will be going door-to-door in Guthrie Center, Adair and Casey on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. to collect canned food products. Donations are appreciated.

Haunted House in Guthrie Center Oct. 30 and Oct. 31

A haunted house, hosted by Main Street Guthrie Center, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30 and Friday, Oct. 31 at 302 Prairie St. Admission cost is $10, and children younger than 10 must be accompanied by an adult. The haunted house will be open 7-10 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 7-11 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Soup Supper in Bagley Oct. 31

The Bagley Fire Association invites everyone to come enjoy a harvest meal from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31. The meal includes several types of soup, cornbread and desserts.

Adult costume contest in Greenfield Oct. 31

The Greenfield Lions Club will host an adult costume contest 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Oct. 31. First prize wins $50, $25 for second, and $10 for third. To enter, stop by the Lions booth during the trunk-or-treat event.

Omelet Brunch Nov. 1 in Panora

St. Thomas Lutheran Church (2106 Highway 4, Panora) will host a made-to-order omelet brunch on Saturday, Nov. 1, 8-11 a.m. The meal includes omelet, muffins, pastries, fruit and drinks. Cost is a freewill donation. Proceeds will fund church mission projects. Free breakfast is offered to all EMS, fire and law enforcements members.

Fall Supper in Stuart Nov. 1

Stuart-Mount Vernon United Methodist Church (219 N.W. Second St.) will host a meal of turkey, dressing, potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad bar, pies and desserts. The event will be Saturday, Nov. 1 from 5:30-7 p.m. Cost is $12 for adults, and $6 for kids younger than 10.

Live music at The Captain’s Pick Nov. 1

On Saturday, Nov. 1, 8-11 p.m., Four Shades of Grey will play classic rock and blues music at The Captain’s Pick (5071 Clover Ridge Road, Panora). There will be prizes for best costumes.

Holiday Showcase Nov. 6-8

The annual Holiday Showcase will be held in Panora, Casey and Guthrie Center to encourage residents and visitors to kick off their holiday shopping. Dates and hours are Thursday, Nov. 6 from 5-8 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Participating businesses will have specials and drawings for prizes.

The Dexter Acts of Kindness 13^th annual holiday raffle (in association with Post No. 419 Dexter American Legion) will be Friday, Nov. 7 at 727 Marshall St. Doors open at 4 p.m., with dinner 5-6:30 p.m. or until gone. Meal includes pulled pork and loose meat sandwiches, along with sides and dessert for sale by the Legion and Auxiliary. Raffle drawing will be at 7 p.m.

Little Charger “Ignite the Future” Fundraiser Nov. 8

On Saturday, Nov. 8, the Little Charger ELC will hold a fundraiser event at the Guthrie Activity Events Center (209 State St., Guthrie Center). Tickets cost $50 and can be purchased at Guthrie County State Bank or from any Little Charger board member (Bethany McCool, Becky Wahl, Samantha Rosenbeck or Erica Finster) or from the Little Charger Facebook page. The event will begin with happy hour 5-6 p.m. Live music by Burnin’ Sensations will play, and Café on the Hill will serve dinner at 7 p.m. There will be live and silent auctions of various gift baskets and items.

Dinner, Dessert Auction and Raffle in Stuart Nov. 8

The Veterans Memorial Fundraiser will be 5-8 p.m. at American Legion Post 146 Hall, 323 S.W. Second St. in Stuart. The freewill donation meal includes pork loin, pasta salad, cheesy hashbrowns, baked beans, roll and drink. Veterans eat free. The auction and raffle will begin at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds will help fund a granite veterans’ memorial.

Yale Craft Sale Nov. 8

On Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., a craft and vendor sale will be held at the Yale Community Building. Thirty local crafters and vendors are expected.

Casey Methodist Church harvest dinner Nov. 9

On Sunday, Nov. 9, the Casey United Methodist Church (100 E. Second St.) will hold a harvest dinner 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal will include a Windsor chop (thick-cut, bone-in pork chop), mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad, roll and pie. Cost is $12 for adults, $6 for kids 10 and younger, and free for preschoolers. Take-out orders will be from 9-10:30 a.m. For local deliveries, call 641-746-2210.

Panora Christmas Lighting Set-up Nov. 13

At 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, helpers are needed to hang lights at the Panora town square.

Reshape Turkey Trot Nov. 27 in Panora

Reshape Fitness Studio’s sixth annual Turkey Trot 3-mile walk/run will be held on Thanksgiving morning at 7:30 a.m. The event will be held at Twin Vines (2821 Highway 44) and the all-terrain course offers panoramic views of Guthrie County. Registration costs $35 through Oct. 31. After that, registration costs $40 through Nov. 22. After that, registration will cost $45. Pre-registered entrants will receive turkey swag. Redfield Winterfest Dec. 6

Celebrate winter in Redfield on Dec. 6 at West Central Valley Middle School. A craft fair, silent auction and cookie walk run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids shop for free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Santa visits at 1 p.m. Then head over to Legion Hall and City Park for the lighting. The chili competition drop-off is at 3:30 p.m. with the judging beginning at 4 p.m. The tree and holiday display and lighting of the park occurs at 5 p.m. The chili feed runs from 5-7 p.m. for a free will donation. At 6:30 p.m., the silent auction ends. And, at 7 p.m., the lighted parade begins.

Staley’s Chicken Dinner in Stuart Oct. 26

All Saints Catholic Church (216 All Saints Drive) will hold a Staley’s chicken dinner featuring mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, salad, dinner roll, pies and desserts. The event will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26. Cost is $15 for adults, $6 for kids 6-12, and free for younger kids. Carryouts are available by calling 515-523-1943.

Panora Lions Pork Chop Dinner Oct. 26

Little Charger “Ignite the Future” Fundraiser Nov. 8

On Saturday, Nov. 8, the Little Charger ELC will hold a fundraiser event at the Guthrie Activity Events Center (209 State St., Guthrie Center). Tickets cost $50 and can be purchased at Guthrie County State Bank or from any Little Charger board member (Bethany McCool, Becky Wahl, Samantha Rosenbeck or Erica Finster) or from the Little Charger Facebook page.

The event will begin with happy hour 5-6 p.m. Live music by Burnin’ Sensations will play, and Café on the Hill will serve dinner at 7 p.m. There will be live and silent auctions of various gift baskets and items.

Redfield Winterfest Dec. 6

Celebrate winter in Redfield on Dec. 6 at West Central Valley Middle School. A craft fair, silent auction and cookie walk run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids shop for free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Santa visits at 1 p.m.  Then head over to Legion Hall and City Park for the lighting. The chili competition drop-off is at 3:30 p.m. with the judging beginning at 4 p.m. The tree and holiday display and lighting of the park occurs at 5 p.m. The chili feed runs from 5-7 p.m. for a free will donation. At 6:30 p.m., the silent auction ends. And, at 7 p.m., the lighted parade begins.

This time of year, fall and harvest events abound — and the holiday events are approaching, too. Below are some upcoming events in or near Guthrie County.

Community Baby Shower Oct. 14

First Christian Church (105 N. Fourth St., Guthrie Center) is hosting a “Come and Go Community Baby Shower” from 5-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The event will honor all Guthrie County prenatal families and those with infants younger than 1 year old. Attendees are encouraged to bring new items to donate.

Legion Fish Fry in Stuart Oct. 15

The Stuart American Legion is holding a fish fry on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 5-7 p.m. at the Legion building (323 S.W. Second St., Stuart). The menu includes cod, Wally’s baked beans, roll and butter, pasta salads and desserts. Cost is $12 for adults (or $11 if donating a canned item to the food pantry). Deliveries available by calling 515-523-1666.

Community Meal at Faith Bible Church Oct. 15

Faith Bible Church (2096 Highway 4, Panora) invites everyone to a free community meal from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The meal on Oct. 15 will include baked ziti, tossed salad, garlic bread, pumpkin bars, and apple pie bars. Upcoming monthly meal dates are Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.

Linden Harvest Supper Oct. 16

On Thursday, Oct. 16, the Linden United Methodist Church will hold a country store and harvest supper. The country store opens at 4 p.m., selling crafts and baked goods. From 5-7 p.m., the supper will serve steak, potatoes and gravy, vegetable and dessert. $12 for adults, $6 for kids younger than 10, and $1 for kids younger than 5. Carryouts are available beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Adair Boys and Girls Club meal delivery Oct. 17

Anyone in the Adair/Casey area is invited to support the Adair Boys and Girls Club of Central Southwest Iowa by ordering Friday harvest lunchtime meals. The Oct. 17 meal will be chicken bacon ranch tater tot casserole. In Adair, deliveries are available at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., noon or 12:30 p.m. In Casey, meals can be picked up at 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. at the Casey Community Center. Cost is $12 per meal, and each meal includes a side, cookie or bar, and water. To order meals for pickup or delivery, please call 641-742-3119 by the Wednesday beforehand. The menu for Friday Oct. 24 is chicken and noodles.

Country Jam at Raccoon Ridge Oct. 19

Raccoon Ridge Music Hall (3281 298^th Lane, Stuart) will hold a “Country Jam” from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19. Admission cost is a freewill donation. Those attending are welcome to bring beverages and snacks. Other upcoming events at Raccoon Ridge include “Who Nu” rock and roll dance, 7-10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 ($10 admission), and music by “Jesse and the Medicine Men” on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2-5 p.m. ($10 admission).

Drive-through harvest dinner in Guthrie Center Oct. 22

On Wednesday, Oct. 22, 4:45-6:30 p.m., Main Street Guthrie Center will hold a drive-thru meal that includes ham balls, green beans, mashed potatoes, roll, and pumpkin bar. Cost is $10 per meal. The event will be held at the Guthrie Center Activity Center, 209 State St.

Haunted House in Guthrie Center Oct. 30 and Oct. 31

A haunted house, hosted by Main Street Guthrie Center, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30 and Friday, Oct. 31 at 302 Prairie St. Admission cost is $10, and children younger than 10 must be accompanied by an adult. The haunted house will be open 7-10 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 7-11 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Holiday Showcase Nov. 6-8

The Guthrie Center and Panora Chambers of Commerce are hosting a Holiday Showcase to encourage residents and visitors to kick off their holiday shopping. Businesses will have participating specials and drawings during the event. Dates and hours are Thursday, Nov. 6 from 5-8 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Guthrie Center Fall Festival Oct. 11

From noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, the Guthrie Center Fall Festival will be held. There will be inflatables, games and crafts for kids. The “Taste of the Town” meat smoking contest will conclude with a public meat feast for $10 (all-you-can-eat, while it lasts). Live music will include Paul Hawkins (noon to 2 p.m.), Tommy Bates (2-4 p.m.) and Kile Jackson (4-6 p.m.). Admission is free.

Cruise and Shop Oct. 10-12

The first annual Cruise and Shop Tour will be held Oct. 10-12 along White Pole Road. It will include approximately 40 possible stops along 26 miles of the scenic byway, with discounts offered at all participating stores, restaurants and bars. The route runs through Dexter, Stuart, Menlo, Casey and Adair. A $26 discount card can be purchased on the website to unlock special discounts all weekend long at participating businesses. Haunted Village Oct. 12

The Guthrie County Historic Village will host its annual Haunted Village event from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 206 W. South Street in Panora. The free event includes candy, games, fortunes, tattoos, crafts, storytelling, the haunted museum, hayrides, and the movie “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” with free popcorn. Costumes are encouraged.

Bagley Chicken Noodle Dinner Oct. 13

Bagley United Methodist Church (401 Main St., Bagley) will host a chicken noodle dinner on Monday, Oct. 13 from 5-7 p.m. The meal includes chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, cole slaw and bars. Freewill donation accepted. Carry-out or dine-in.
