This time of year, fall and harvest events abound — and the holiday events are approaching, too. Below are some upcoming events in or near Guthrie County.

Adair Boys and Girls Club meal delivery Oct. 10

Anyone in the Adair/Casey area is invited to support the Adair Boys and Girls Club of Central Southwest Iowa by ordering Friday harvest lunchtime meals. The Oct. 10 meal will be brisket mac and cheese.

In Adair, deliveries are available at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., noon or 12:30 p.m. 

In Casey, meals can be picked up at 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. at the Casey Community Center.

Cost is $12 per meal, and each meal includes a side, cookie or bar, and water. To order meals for pickup or delivery, call 641-742-3119 by the Wednesday beforehand.

The menu for upcoming Fridays is: Oct. 17, chicken bacon ranch tater tot casserole; Oct. 24, chicken and noodles.

Guthrie Center Fall Festival Oct. 11

From noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, the Guthrie Center Fall Festival will be held. There will be inflatables, games and crafts for kids. The “Taste of the Town” meat-smoking contest will conclude with a public meat feast for $10 (all-you-can-eat, while it lasts). Live music will include Paul Hawkins (noon to 2 p.m.), Tommy Bates (2-4 p.m.) and Kile Jackson (4-6 p.m.). Admission is free.

Driftfest 4 at Jamaica Oct. 11-12

The Jamaica Raceway (407 Fourth Ave., Jamaica) will hold Driftfest 4 on the weekend of Oct. 11-12. Details are not yet available. Check the Jamaica Raceway Facebook page for updates.

Cruise and Shop Oct. 10-12

The first annual Cruise and Shop Tour will be held Oct. 10-12 along White Pole Road. It will include approximately 40 possible stops along 26 miles of the scenic byway, with discounts offered at all participating stores, restaurants and bars. The route runs through Dexter, Stuart, Menlo, Casey and Adair. A $26 discount card can be purchased on the website to unlock special discounts all weekend long at participating businesses. Cards can be purchased at whitepoleroadcruiseandshop.eventbrite.com. More information is available on the Facebook page of White Pole Road.

Haunted Village Oct. 12

The Guthrie County Historic Village will host its annual Haunted Village event from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 206 W. South St. in Panora. The free event includes candy, games, fortunes, tattoos, crafts, storytelling, the haunted museum, hayrides and the movie “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” with free popcorn. Costumes are encouraged.

Bagley Chicken Noodle Dinner Oct. 13

Bagley United Methodist Church (401 Main St., Bagley) will host a chicken noodle dinner on Monday, Oct. 13 from 5-7 p.m. The meal includes chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, cole slaw and bars. Freewill donation accepted. Carry-out or dine-in.

Community Baby Shower Oct. 14

First Christian Church (105 N. Fourth St., Guthrie Center) is hosting a “Come and Go Community Baby Shower” from 5-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The event will honor all Guthrie County prenatal families and those with infants younger than 1 year old. Attendees are encouraged to bring new items to donate.

Legion Fish Fry in Stuart Oct. 15

The Stuart American Legion is holding a fish fry on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 5-7 p.m. at the Legion building (323 S.W. Second St., Stuart). The menu includes cod, Wally’s baked beans, roll and butter, pasta salads and desserts. Cost is $12 for adults (or $11 if donating a canned item to the food pantry). Country Jam at Raccoon Ridge Oct. 19

Raccoon Ridge Music Hall (3281 298^th Lane, Stuart) will hold a “Country Jam” from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19. Admission cost is a freewill donation. Those attending are welcome to bring beverages and snacks.

Other upcoming events at Raccoon Ridge include “Who Nu” rock & roll dance, 7-10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 ($10 admission), and music by “Jesse and the Medicine Men” on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2-5 p.m. ($10 admission).

Redfield Winterfest Dec. 6

Celebrate winter in Redfield on Dec. 6 at West Central Valley Middle School. A craft fair, silent auction and cookie walk run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids shop for free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Santa visits at 1 p.m.  Then head over to Legion Hall and City Park for the lighting. The chili competition drop-off is at 3:30 p.m. with the judging beginning at 4 p.m. The tree and holiday display and lighting of the park occurs at 5 p.m. The chili feed runs from 5-7 p.m. for a free will donation. At 6:30 p.m., the silent auction ends. And, at 7 p.m., the lighted parade begins.

Bob Dylan Tribute in Greenfield Oct. 3

Chrome Horse, the Bob Dylan Tribute, will play at the Warren Cultural Center (154 Public Square, in Greenfield) at 7 p.m. tonight, Friday, Oct. 3. Tickets are $25 each.

GCH Health Fair and 5K Oct. 4

Guthrie County Hospital (710 N. 12^th St., Guthrie Center) will hold a 5K run/walk at 10:30 a.m., followed by a health fair and free lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 4.

Adair Brisket Dinner Oct. 4

Adair Fire and Rescue will hold a brisket dinner on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 5-8 p.m. at the fire hall (505 Fifth St., Adair). Tickets are $13 each. A raffle will also be held.

Twin Vines Fall Festival Oct. 4

Twin Vines (2821 Highway 44, Panora) will host a fall festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4. Zipp’s Pizzaria food truck will be on hand, along with live music. Approximately 20 vendors are expected.

St. Cecelia’s Chicken Dinner Oct. 5

St. Cecelia’s Church (220 N. First St. in Panora) is holding a chicken dinner on Sunday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Veterans Auditorium on Main St. in Panora. Admission price for adults is $15, kids $10, and kids younger than 6 eat free.

Pie auction in Guthrie Center, Sept. 27

Republicans of Guthrie County is hosting its 26^th annual pie auction on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Guthrie Center Activity Center, 209 State St. Doors will open at 4 p.m., and the social hour and silent auction will run from 4:30-5:30 p.m. with live music. At 5:30 p.m., a freewill donation supper will be served. After the meal, a live auction will be held.  

Bowman Chapel Harvest Dinner, Sept. 28

On Sunday, Sept. 28, the Bowman Chapel (2397 Bowman Ave., Guthrie Center) will host its harvest dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal includes roast beef, homegrown sweet corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, salads, pies and desserts. A freewill donation will be accepted. Drive-thru and carryout options are available.

ACGC Car Show on Saturday

Those who like cars, trucks and/or tractors will want to attend the ACGC FFA car show. On Saturday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., vehicles of all sorts will be on display at Guthrie Center’s Mitchell Park, just east of the fairgrounds.

Scoop the Loop in Stuart this Saturday

On Saturday, Sept. 13, the final “Scoop the Loop” car show of the year will be held in downtown Stuart from 3-8 p.m. Whether you have a classic car or not, Scoop the Loop is the place for a nostalgic good time Saturday.

Community Brunch in Adair on Saturday

St. John’s Catholic Church, 501 Adair St. in Adair, welcomes all to a complimentary meal and fellowship, Saturday, Sept. 13, 9-11 a.m. The event will be held in the hall behind the church.

Game Day at MJB Library on Saturday

In honor of National Good Neighbor Day, the Mary J Barnett Library (Guthrie Center Library) is hosting “game day” on Saturday, Sept. 13 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.). All are invited to come enjoy puzzles and board games. Similar game day events at the library are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 16 (4 p.m. to closing) and Saturday, Sept. 20 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

Tori’s Angels Fall Gala Saturday evening

“Angels Under the Big Top” will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Guthrie County Fairgrounds. The event opens at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m., followed by live and silent auctions at 7 p.m. Appetizers and a prime rib dinner will be served. Tickets are $125 each, or $1,000 for a table of eight. For tickets, call Joann Alumbaugh, 641-431-0257.

“Amazing Iowa” author talk on Sunday

Author Michelle Sprout Murray will be at the Casey Library at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14 to talk about her book, “Amazing Iowa.” She will tell tales of mobsters, artists, inventors, athletes and others who she discovered while traveling the state.
