Jeep rolls over on White Pole Road

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Jason Gray reported a single-vehicle accident occurring on Oct. 31 at 12:49 a.m. on White Pole Road.  Jadon Gary Wilson, 21, of Stuart, was driving a 2018 Jeep Compass eastbound on White Pole Road near the intersection of Quail Avenue and left the roadway on the south side and struck the ditch, resulting in a rollover. Damage to the Jeep is estimated at $15,000.  Gray was issued a citation for failure to maintain control. 

Yukon collides with cow on Redwood Avenue

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Josh Armstrong reported a vehicle vs. cow accident occurring on Oct. 31 at 11:09 p.m. on Redwood Avenue. Ronald Cameron Woods, 61, of Guthrie Center, was driving a 2009 GMC Yukon southbound on Redwood Avenue in the 2300 block and struck a black cow owned by Jake Anderson in the roadway. Damage to the Yukon is estimated at $1,501. 

Guthrie Center American Legion to hold Chili and Oyster Stew Dinner Nov. 11

The Guthrie Center American Legion Chili and Oyster Stew Dinner will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11 from 5-7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall at 507 State St. in Guthrie Center. Use the ramp between Guthrie Center Family Medicine and Guthrie Center Post Office. The public is welcome. Veterans eat for free. All others are a free will offering. Arrive early, as the oyster stew goes quickly.

Iowa PBS to air 2025 IHSAA Football Championships

For the first time, Iowa PBS is your home for the 2025 IHSAA Football Championships. Coverage of each class’ title game will take place Thursday, Nov. 20 starting at 9:30 a.m. and Friday, Nov. 21 starting at 10 a.m. Championship games will be played at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. Each game will be broadcast on statewide Iowa PBS and livestreamed on iowapbs.org and YouTube.

The championship coverage will include Paul Yeager hosting the Iowa PBS Sports Pregame and halftime with in-depth features, highlights and events including the Honor Cheer Squad performing during Friday’s 2A and 3A halftimes and the induction of the 2025 Hall of Fame class during the 5A halftime.

The lineup of announcers calling the games is listed below.

  • Eight-Player: Trevor Maeder on play-by-play and Tom Petersen on color commentary.
  • Class A: Shawn Kenney on play-by-play and Jeremiah Longnecker on color commentary.
  • Class 1A and 4A: Shawn Kenney on play-by-play and Kevin Bowman on color commentary.
  • Class 2A and 3A: Shawn Kenney on play-by-play and Pat Angerer on color commentary.
  • Class 5A: Shawn Kenney on play-by-play and Kevin Miller on color commentary.

Brewster selected for Iowa Communications Alliance Leadership Academy

The Iowa Communications Alliance’s Leadership Academy launched the 2025-2026 session on Oct. 15. The in-person program is designed to help strengthen and encourage emerging leaders in the broadband industry across the state of Iowa. Participants are selected through a competitive application process submitted by individuals at ICA member companies. Congratulations to this year’s Leadership Academy participants:

Over the next six months, the class will receive training in a variety of areas including: time management, delegation, HR basics, building positive company culture, presentation skills and goal setting. The Leadership Academy will conclude with a graduation ceremony in March 2026 as part of ICA’s Annual Meeting of Members in Des Moines.
