Peterbilt turns over on Talon Avenue

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Bennett reported a single-vehicle accident occurring on Aug. 28 at 12:59 p.m. on Talon Avenue. Charles Leroy Dailey, 43, of Clarinda, was driving a 2014 Peterbilt tractor/semi-trailer and was making a left-hand turn from While Pole Road on to Talon Avenue. Dailey was driving too fast for the intersection and lost control, rolling onto the passenger side and coming to rest on Talon Avenue. Estimated damage to the Peterbilt is $40,000. Dailey was uninjured.

ACGC FFA represents well at state livestock evaluation

The FFA Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event provides an opportunity for FFA members to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of Livestock Evaluation. Activities included: placing breeding and market classes of beef, swine, sheep and goats; keep/cull and oral reasons classes. There were 163 members participating from 51 chapters.

The Iowa FFA Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event was made possible with support from the Iowa State University Block and Bridle Club and Iowa FFA Foundation Gold Standard Partners. The Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event was coordinated and conducted by Will Taylor and other faculty and staff with the Animal Science Department at Iowa State University.

The ACGC FFA had three members travel to Ames to compete in this contest. Team members Rylee Robson, Irelyn Wirt, and Imersyn Wirt received 17th overall and a Gold rating for their efforts in the contest held on Aug. 23.

Cribbage results from Sept. 3

On Sept. 3, Larry Gardiner got two 16s and a 21; Sandy Rumelhart, Dennis Betts, Gary Evans and Robert Klever each got a 16; and Chet Vaughan got a 16 and a 17.

The Guthrie Center cribbage players generally meet at Guthrie Center Library, 400 Grand St., on Mondays at 8 a.m. and at the New Homestead independent living dining hall, 2306 State St., at 8 a.m. on Wednesdays and at 1 p.m. on Fridays. Organizers say there is always room for more, and they will be glad to teach you how to play. They play for quarters on Wednesday and Friday.

Guthrie County Fair cribbage tournament results

Bill Eby won the Silver Dollars donated by Farmers State Bank.

A cribbage tournament was held as part of the Guthrie County Fair activities on Aug. 29 at  9 a.m. at the Event Center. Again this year, the tournament was sponsored by the Milo Rees family, who paid for the players’ admission to the fair.  A total of 58 people participated.

  • 4th — Dave Richter
  • 5th — John Rees
  • 6th — Ski Ciesielski
  • 7th — Lyle Laughery

Dave Kading won the Skunked T-shirt.

Hands of 24 were held by Carol Laughery, Lyle Laughery, Dean Grifith, Charlotte Holle,  Steve Ortner and Rex Schoonover. There were 17 games with a skunk.

The Guthrie County Fair was held Aug. 28 – Sept. 1. Attendance was strong, and weather was exceptional.
