Two-vehicle collision on Zenith Road

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Bennett reported a two-vehicle accident occurring on Aug. 14 on Zenith Road. Heather Louise Dunmire, 49, of Greenfield, was driving a 2011 Dodge Durango and collided with a 2014 GMC Acadia driven by Kael Andrew Sawyers, 15, of Dexter.  Sawyers was stopped on White Pole Road to make a left run onto Zenith. Dunmore failed to top and struck Sawyer’s vehicle. Damage to the Durango is estimated at $5,000. Damage to the Acadia is estimated at $3,500. 

Tractor accident on 120th Street

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Josh Armstrong reported a single-vehicle accident occurring on Aug. 13 at 5:20 p.m. on 120th Street. Hendrik Johannes Smith, 29, of Coon Rapids, was driving a 2012 John Deere 8360R tractor eastbound on 120th Street when a tie rod broke and steering was lost. Smith bailed out of the tractor as it veered into the south ditch. While still in gear and under its own power, the tractor broke through a barbed wire fence and made a large U-turn in the pasture, then headed north through the barbed wire fence again, crossing 120th Street and into a small creek in the north ditch.  Estimated damage to the tractor is $1,501. 

Cribbage results from Aug. 15 and Aug. 18

On Aug. 15, a total of 10 players participated. Robert Klever got two 16s; Allen Pierce got a 20; Kay Phippen got a 20 and a 16; Kathy Feilmeier got a 21; Dave Richter  hauled in a 17; and Sandy Rumelhart got a 16.

On Aug. 18, a total of 13 players participated. Rhonda Titus, Dan Webb, Bill Sheeder and Robert Klever each got a 16; Chet Vaughan, Wayne Nickel and Sandy Rumelhart got a 17; and Dennis Betts had a 24.

The Guthrie Center cribbage players generally meet at Guthrie Center Library, 400 Grand St., on Mondays at 8 a.m. and at the New Homestead independent living dining hall, 2306 State St., at 8 a.m. on Wednesdays and at 1 p.m. on Fridays. Organizers say there is always room for more, and they will be glad to teach you how to play. They play for quarters on Wednesday and Friday.

Senior Fun Day Aug. 19

The public is invited to Senior Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at the Guthrie Center Activity Center, 209 State St. in Guthrie Center. Information will be available about services and resources for those 50 or older. Booths will be open 10 a.m. to noon A free lunch will be served 11 a.m. to noon, and free bingo will be played noon to 1 p.m.

StoryWalk grand opening event Aug. 19

The StoryWalk grand opening event will be held Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. at Raccoon River Valley Trail by Pedal-In.
