Unknown vehicle sideswipes Freightliner on Highway 141

Guthrie County Sheriff Reserve Dillan Cooper reported a two-vehicle accident occurring on Dec. 13 at 8:40 a.m. on Highway 141. Chadd Anthony Pranger, 31, of Ankeny, was driving a 2022 Freightliner east on Highway 141 when an unknown vehicle attempted to pass him and reportedly side-swiped the vehicle, causing an estimated $2,500 in damage to the step on the Freightliner. 

Honda collides with Wrangler on Brown Street

Guthrie County Sheriff Matt Harmann reported a two-vehicle accident occurring on Dec. 9 at 11:12 a.m. on Brown Street in Guthrie Center. Joaquina Reyes, 72, of Guthrie Center, was driving a 2000 Honda Civic LX west on Brown Street, failed to stop at a posted stop sign and collided with a 2021 Jeep Wrangler driven by Lisa Reriche Schwandt, 58, of Guthrie Center, that was heading south on North Seventh Street. Reyes received citations for no valid driver’s license, failure to provide proof of financial liability, and failing to obey stop sign and yield right of way.  Damage to the Honda is estimated at $1,200. Damage to the Jeep is estimated at $750. 

Jeep strikes deer on Highway 44

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Taylor Wheatley reported a car vs. deer accident occurring on Dec. 9 at 5:36 p.m. on Highway 44.  Patricia Lee Schreck, 41, of Guthrie Center, was driving a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Highway 44 and struck a deer, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Explorer strikes deer on White Pole Road

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Matt Losee reported a car vs. deer accident occurring on Dec. 8 at 7:31 p.m. on White Pole Road.  Monica Rose Cortesio, 66, of Casey, was driving a 2014 Ford Explorer westbound on White Pole Road and struck a deer, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Mirrors collide on Frost Trail

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Kent Gries reported a two-vehicle accident occurring on Dec. 6 at 2:27 p.m. on Frost Trail. Ezequiel Rosario Pena, 42, of Huxley, was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Express G4500 cargo van northeast bound on Frost Trail and collided mirrors with a 2010 Ford F250 Super Duty Pickup headed southwest bound driven by Thomas Jesse Crawley, 71, of Guthrie Center. The two vehicles appeared to meet in the middle of the road, and both of their driver’s door rear view mirrors collided with each other. Both mirrors were destroyed. No injuries. Crawley stated that Rosario Pena was over the center of the road. Rosario Pena denies this. Dash camera footage from the cargo van shows that both vehicles should have been driving slower given the snow-covered roads and limited visibility from the curve. Video was inconclusive as to who was more toward the center of the road.  Estimated damage to each vehicle is $1,000. 

Mazda collides with tree off White Pole Road

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Blake Michelsen reported a single-vehicle accident occurring on Dec. 14 at 4:58 a.m. on White Pole Road. Daniel Kevin Hutson, 66, of Grandview, Missouri, was driving a 2017 Mazda and drove straight off the curve and came to a rest when colliding with a tree. Passenger Suzanne Alice Manu, 47, of Independence, Missouri, was transported via Adair EMS to Mercy West. Report stated Hutson showed no signs of impairment or intoxication.  Damage to the Mazda is estimated at $20,000.
