Five ACGC girls earn WCAC honors, several records broken

The ACGC girls basketball team had five girls earn awards for their performances this season. They were Meranda Gruber, Savannah Akers, Becca Littler, Stella Largent and Camdyn Richter. Several girls set records this season. The team also set several school records. Points per game at 56.1, field goal percentage at 39.1%, total rebounds with 781 and free throws made with 253.

Star of the squad, Camdyn Richter, racked up awards just as she racked up points this season. Richter led the team with 16.9 points per game and led in steals at 2.6. She also averaged 6.2 rebounds and one assist. Richter was named First Team All-Conference to the Southwest All-District Region 3 Team, and Third Team All-State. Richter now holds the school record for points at 1,016, rebounds with 521 and tied for blocks with Stella Largent at 44. She is also second all-time in steals at 202.

Stella Largent earned First Team All-Conference honors. Largent was a double-double machine during the season, averaging 11.4 points per game, a team-high 9.2 rebounds, two assists and 1.7 steals. She set the school record for rebounds in a season with 203. She is currently fifth all time in total points with 572, second in rebounds with 460, eighth in assists with 98, eighth in steals with 137 and is tied with Richter for most blocks with 44.

Meranda Gruber and Becca Littler were named Honorable Mention to the WCAC. Gruber averaged 7.8 points per game and a team-high 2.5 assists. She also averaged three rebounds and 2.3 steals. Littler averaged 4.9 points per game, 2.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.3 steals. Littler ranks second all-time in assists at 161 and third all-time in steals with 182.

Savannah Akers was named Academic All-State. In order to be named Academic All-State, athletes must be a senior and meet two of the following criteria: A cumulative GPA of 3.85, ACT score of 27 or higher (1200 or higher SAT), and rank in the top 5% in class 3A/4A/5A or top 10% in class 1A/2A.

Panthers compete at Dickinson Relays

The Panorama boys track and field team sent several athletes to compete in the Dickinson Relays on Monday, March 9 at UNI. More than 100 schools attended the early season track and field meet.

Hunter Kempf (8.15), Court Vogel (8.20) and Connor Deardorff (8.60) ran in the 60-meter prelims. Syler Shaffer had the highest placement in a race for Panorama, placing 56th in the 60-meter hurdle prelims. Corbin Deardorf (1:00.38), Adrian Leone (1:04.40) and Bennett Allen (1:08.11) competed in the 400-meter. Cristian Monrroy-Nunez placed 49th in the shot put with a 43-07.75 toss after recently committing to the University of Dubuque for the same event. The Panthers sent one relay team, with Kempf, Vogel, Shaffer and Deardorff placing 56th (1:44.08) in the 4×200-meter relay.

BVU’s Boettcher earns Honorable Mention in American Rivers Conference

Former Panorama girls basketball standout Tyme Boettcher was voted as an Honorable Mention in the American Rivers Conference All-Conference awards while playing with the Buena Vista University Beavers.

Boettcher, despite just missing out on all-conference accolades this season, ranked 13th in the A-R-C in scoring at 11.8 ppg, ninth in rebounding (6.4 rpg) and fifth in steals (1.9 spg). She shot just under 40% from the field and missed only one free-throw in conference play (22-of-23). In a home game at home against Dubuque on Jan. 31, Boettcher scored a season-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds and six assists as BVU completed the season sweep. During an overtime victory at Central, she turned in 17 points, including three makes from long range, to go along with four rebounds.

BVU, led by Head Coach Kylee Boettcher, another former Panther, reached 10 conference wins for the first time since 2009-10 and qualified for the conference tournament for the first time in eight seasons.

Crandall and Draper earn Honorable Mentions from WCAC All-Conference awards

Two Panther boys basketball players earned West Central Activities Conference honors for their efforts this season. Cruz Crandall and Reed Draper were named Honorable Mentions by the WCAC.

Crandall was the Panthers’ most effective scorer, leading the team at 15.9 points per game. Crandall also averaged 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and just under one steal at .9.

Reed Draper averaged an even 8 points per game and led the team in rebounds at 5.2. He also averaged 1.3 steals, one assist and .8 blocks.

Skram, Crawford earn Second Team, Kading and Kent Honorable Mention in WCAC All-Conference

Four ACGC boys basketball players received honors from the West Central Activities Conference. Two players, Joe Crawford and Thomas Skram, were named Second Team All-Conference. Jonny Kading and Preston Kent were Honorable Mentions.

Thomas Skram led the Chargers in scoring this season, averaging 16.4 points per game. He also led the team in steals at 3.5 and assists at 3.3.

Joe Crawford was the team’s next-best scorer, averaging 14.4 points per game. He averaged 1.6 steals, 2.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds.

Preston Kent averaged 7.2 points per game, the second-most rebounds for the Chargers at 4.2, and 1.3 steals and 1.8 assists.

Jonny Kading was a bit of an everyman for ACGC. He averaged 6.4 points per game, leading the team in blocks at 1.5 and rebounds at 7.4. He also averaged 1.6 steals and 2.3 assists.

Monrroy-Nunez signs with University of Dubuque for shot put

Panorama’s Cristian Monrroy-Nunez signed with the University of Dubuque’s track and field team to continue his academic and athletic careers with the Spartans. Monrroy-Nunez will compete in the shot put events for his new squad. Monrroy-Nunez was Panorama’s main shot putter and discus thrower last season with his longest shot put measuring 45-03.75 and his longest discus toss being 120-09.50.
