Charger boys fall to Madrid

The ACGC boys basketball team (2-6) lost its away game to Madrid (9-3) on Friday, Jan. 9. Madrid’s stifling defense kept the Chargers quiet in this game. Thomas Skram led ACGC in scoring with nine points. Hudson Gilland led in rebounds with six.

No. 14 ACGC girls drop game to No. 8 Exira-EHK

The No. 14 ACGC girls basketball team (8-2) lost its away game to No. 8 Exira-EHK (9-1) on Saturday, Jan. 10. This was a close game throughout the contest. Exira-EHK pulled away in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a 37-28 lead. ACGC would score 22 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to complete the comeback.

The girls travel to Woodward-Granger (7-3) tonight, Jan. 13. ACGC has not lost to the WCAC foe since 2020 and won three games against the Hawks last season: 56-28, 52-35 and 62-48.

No. 14 ACGC girls defeat Madrid, 62-35

The No. 14 ACGC girls basketball (8-1) team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a win at Madrid (7-5) on Friday, Jan. 9. Stella Largent shined on offense in this game, leading the Chargers with 20 points and leading in rebounds with seven, six of those on offense. Camdyn Richter joined her in double figures with 13 points. Meranda Gruber, Karli Kautzky, Becca Littler and Kailee Kautzky all had three steals apiece.

Waltz wins championship, 4 others compete in final at Panorama Girls Tournament

The Panorama girls wrestling team hosted a tournament on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Natalie Waltz won her weight class with a victory over Kaylee Wells of Creston. Ella Carico, Dafne Hernandez, Gracie Recker and Emma Walker all also competed in first-place bouts but fell short. Still, an excellent showing for the Panther girls at their home meet. The girls next competition is the I-35 quadrangular on Jan. 13.

Panther boys hit the mats on Saturday for PCM Wrestling Invite

The Panorama boys wrestling team competes at the PCM Wrestling Invite on Saturday, Jan. 10. The Panthers face competition from various levels across Iowa with Central Decatur, Chariton, Des Moines East, Frontenac, Gilbert, Indianola, Iowa Falls-Alden, Knoxville, Nevada, PCM, Pleasantville, South Tama County, Southeast Polk and Southeast Warren attending the meet.

Panorama girls falter against Creston, 68-45

The Panorama girls basketball team (2-7) lost its away game on Thursday, Jan. 8 against Creston (5-5). Creston’s dominant 28-7 first quarter gave them all the space needed to win. Kadley Bailey of Creston poured it on, scoring 41 points. Panorama would draw closer with a 17-7 second quarter in their favor but ultimately fell to the crimson Panthers. 

Morgan Crees led Panorama in scoring with 14 points and in assists with five assists. Ashley Crees led in rebounds with eight. The Panthers make a quick return to the court tonight, Friday, Jan. 9, at home against Ogden (0-11). Panorama defeated Ogden three times last season, 34-30, 51-17 and 62-32.
