Special to the Times Vedette
Main Street Dance Studios in Panora held its 11th annual All Star Dance Competition and Workshop this past weekend at Panorama High School. The purpose of this event is to get the competition team ready for the season, which starts this weekend for some competitors and runs through June.
Typically, three to four judges of various dance backgrounds are brought in to score and provide critiques for performances on Saturday, and teach classes during the workshop on Sunday. The classes cover many styles of dance, including tap, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, jazz and musical theater.
In addition to performing their competition routines, each dancer had the opportunity to compete in an improv contest at the end of Saturday night, right before the awards ceremony. This portion was judged by alumni dancers of the studio and teaching staff.
