During the Oct. 27 meeting of the Guthrie County Board of Supervisors, Health Services Director Jotham Arber reported on the need to renew a 28E agreement with the Iowa DNR regarding well permitting.
“The DNR, for the last couple decades, has had 28E agreements with counties to do well permitting. Our 28E agreement is coming to an end, and they want to extend it,” Arber said.
No objections were voiced, so Arber will submit the draft 28E agreement to the county attorney for review and recommendations.
Arber also updated the supervisors on Guthrie County’s submission asking to be considered as the lead entity for the new Public Health region. Although the selection process is still ongoing, Arber shared that he feels Guthrie County submitted a strong proposal.
“We got letters of support from the hospitals. We got letters of support from EMS and pharmacies,” he said. “In total, I submitted 32 letters of support.”
Arber said vaccination clinics continue to be well-attended. He noted that Guthrie Center may change vaccination clinics to Wednesdays, although individuals can call to make an appointment on other days as well. He added that vaccinations are available for the flu, COVID-19, MMR and possibly others, depending on the supply of vaccines.
County Engineer Josh Sebern summarized the country’s annual weed commissioner report.
The supervisors approved the report and voted to reappoint Tim Masters as weed commissioner.
The supervisors then went into a closed session as allowed by law to discuss with legal counsel a matter regarding the Law Enforcement Center.
Due to Election Day, no meeting of the supervisors will be held during the week of Nov. 2-6.
The supervisors meet regularly on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. The public is welcome to attend in person at the courthouse or via remote technology. To join remotely, call 323-792-6123, then use meeting code 547029216#.
