During the Oct. 26 regular meeting of the Guthrie Center City Council, Mayor Roger Baird brought up the topic of the regular office hours of city hall.

“Our city hall hours right now are that we’re closed on Wednesday afternoon,” he said. Baird asked about the reason for this schedule, but none of the members present knew.

City Administrator Kris Arrasmith said that schedule was adopted before she became a city employee, and there does not seem to be any specific current reason for city hall to be closed Wednesday afternoons. Baird suggested expanding city hall hours to 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every weekday. No formal action was taken at this time, since the matter was not on the agenda.

Councilmember Erika Finster shared examples of playground equipment she has seen elsewhere that is specifically for babies/toddlers. She noted that no other parks in the county seem to have equipment for this age group, so she feels it would be of benefit to the community. Other councilmembers agreed, but no action was taken at this time.

The council approved the first readings of several proposed ordinance amendments. Arrasmith explained that these are simply “codification” changes.

The council reviewed and approved the city’s 2025/2026 annual financial report.

The next regular meeting of the council will be Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome.
