The Iowa Finance Authority released a list of 16 communities being given grants to advance water-quality projects. The grants are available through the Wastewater and Drinking Water Treatment Financial Assistance Program, which started in 2018. The program receives a portion of the tax on metered water and had $8 million available for allocation in 2023. Grants will be awarded through the program annually through 2039.
The city of Jamaica and each of the other 15 cities selected will receive a grant of $500,000. The overall expected cost for the Jamaica drinking water project is $2,028,800.
The Wastewater program has assisted 68 communities through a total of nearly $26 million in grants since the first funds were given in 2019.
