Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight is about to embark on its 25th flight, leaving Fort Dodge on May 22 and taking area veterans to our nation’s capital to visit the memorials.
Local veterans scheduled to participate include Marshall Burgess and Kass Duis, along with Lynn Zajicek, who is going as an aide.
Currently, the Honor Flights are including veterans from any of three wartime periods (World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War). Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight has flown approximately 3,000 veterans on 24 flights from approximately 45 counties and 155 communities. There are approximately 400 veterans on the waiting list. As in the past, the veterans do not pay for their flights; however, the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight Board expects the counties in which the veterans live to financially support their veterans to go on this trip.
To raise funds for Brushy Creek Area Honor Flights, a four-person best ball golf tournament will be held On June 15 at the Lake Panorama Executive par three golf course. This is the second year for the tournament, which is organized by the American Legion/SAL Post 372 (Panora), Post 124 (Guthrie Center) and Post 146 (Stuart).
