Editor’s note: Monteith is an unincorporated community in Guthrie County. Residents in or around the area gather monthly to share updates on projects and celebrate milestones. Following are the “minutes” from the affectionally named “Monteith City Council Meeting.” We are pleased to publish these as submitted.
There were 21 people in attendance at the Monteith City Council Meeting/Christmas Celebration on Dec. 17. Mayor JD Kuster called the meeting to order, starting with the Pledge of Allegiance.
December birthdays included Carrie Dideriksen, Barry Branson, Deanne Sewell Sheley and Julie Rinehart Gilge. No December anniversaries were reported.
In old business, the Christmas decorations were put up at Mitchell City Park in Guthrie Center. Those in attendance said the drive-thru in the park is worth the time, and they are proud of their display. The group also decorated the Monteith Cemetery sign and the sign at the City Park in Monteith.
Park and Rec (ladies) Barb Bachman and Vanessa Branson readied 147 Christmas cards for three local nursing homes. Vanessa delivered the cards on behalf of the entire group to Lakeside Village, Panora Specialty Care and The New Homestead.
Kilt Fest was discussed but was tabled until the January meeting.
Upcoming events:
- Zoning commission will be on 12/27/24 at 1 p.m. at Monteith Event Center.
- Next council meeting will be on 1/14/25 at 6 p.m. at Monteith Event Center.
Jim Smith motioned to adjourn the meeting, and several seconded the motion. We were all anxious to get to the food and fun gifts. Lots of fun gifts and laughs were abundant during the gift exchange. The game involved picking a gift, having to trade a gift to the left or right, all by the roll of the dice. Stealing seemed to be the most fun.
