The ACGC football team (10-0) reached double-digit wins on the season and advanced to the Class A quarterfinals with its home win against Mount Ayr (6-4) on Friday, Oct. 31. The Halloween night game was a successful one for the Chargers, not allowing Mount Ayr to score until the fourth quarter.
Three athletes carried the load for the ACGC offense. Brexton Schneider led the team in carries (21) and yards (141) but did not find the end zone. Joe Crawford rushed for 119 yards and one TD. Ryder Cline rushed for 71 yards and hit pay dirt twice. Xander Harwood was all over the field on defense with a game-high 10.5 tackles, five solo and two for losses. Morgun Nolte and Carter Richter recorded half a sack each. Oliver Wetzel went 3/3 on PATs, cementing his place in the record books. The senior had 151 career made point after attempts, which ties him for the 17th most for 11-man football in Iowa.
ACGC will face West Sioux (9-1) at home on Friday, Nov. 7 in the Class A quarterfinals with a chance to head to UNI for the semifinal. The Falcons defeated Sibley-Ocheyedan, 31-14, to reach the quarterfinal. West Sioux is a more passing-oriented squad. Their senior QB, Blake Wiggins, has thrown for 1,649 yards, 22 TD and nine INTs. On the ground, junior Braylon Lopez has rushed for 1,167 yards and 11 TDs. Wiggins has also rushed for 546 yards and 13 TDs. Expect him to be their main point of attack on offense.
