The ACGC baseball team (9-11) got back into the win column with its home victory over Madrid (6-14) on Monday, June 30. Madrid jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Chargers, slowly but surely, grew their lead over the course the game, amounting an 8-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth they would hold onto for the win.
Ben Franzeen and Taytum Bates both had two RBIs and one double each. Noah Kading and Blaize Dorsey had one RBI apiece. Tommy Skram and Noah Kading split time on the mound. Kading pitched five innings, striking out five batters, allowing one earned run and picked up the win. Tommy Skram pitched the other two innings, striking out four batters.
The Chargers’ next games are a home double header against Van Meter (19-8) today, Tuesday, July 1. Van Meter has boasted a solid baseball program for several years and has dominated this matchup. The last Charger win came in 2021, a 2-0 victory in the second leg of a double header.
