Preston Kent and Cadence Petersen competed at the Class 1A state cross country championships on Saturday, Nov. 1. Kent placed 28th in 17:06.2 in the boys race. Hugh Conway of South Winneshiek placed first overall with a time of 15:50.7. Riverside Oakland won the meet with 54 points.

“I didn’t get the PR like I wanted, but I definitely got the place I wanted. I made top 30, second team all-state and I accomplished that goal,” Kent said of his performance.

In the girls race, Petersen placed 89th in 21:50.8. Lili Denton of St. Albert Council Bluffs placed first in 17:56.6. South Winneshiek won the meet with 125 points.

“I feel pretty great. I’m just proud that I got here and proud of what I did today on the course,” Petersen said.
