The Panorama boys track team finished in 11th place with 34 points at the Ogden Coed meet Thursday, April 3. Atlantic captured first with 96 points.
“It was good to get our first outdoor meet under our belts, especially for our freshmen who hadn’t experienced a true high school meet yet,” Coach Bruce Dahlhauser said. “Our biggest takeaway as coaches was that these young guys weren’t fazed or intimidated by the atmosphere or the competition. It ended up being a fairly large meet on the boys side, and we were certainly one of the smallest schools in the group. Our guys gave tremendous effort and competed very well. While points and placings don’t always show that, I do think our kids deserve a lot of credit for their performance.”
Noah Poldberg started off his senior season on a good note, finishing first in the 3200 and second in the 1600.
“This is even more impressive when you consider he had just come off of playing a large part in our Spring Musical and hadn’t been able to practice as consistently as he would like or compete in our indoor meet at BV,” Dahlhauser said. “This is a credit to his ability to motivate and push himself every day even when others aren’t around.”
Dahlhauser said Cristian Monrroy-Nunez had his first opportunity to throw the discus in a meet this year and was able to put up a mark that nearly matched his best from a year ago.
“He was also able to put a distance over 40 feet in the shot put, putting him right on with where he left off last season as well. He dials in every day and continues to show improvement each time out,” he said.
“While we had several guys run some good early season splits in our relays, the performance that jumps out the most to me from last night was Corbin Deardorff in the open 400 meters,” Dahlhauser said. “For a freshman in his first outdoor high school meet to run a 57.21 and place sixth in a meet of that caliber is tremendous. We knew he had great potential, but that performance definitely puts him ahead of schedule and is really exciting as we look toward the rest of this season and beyond.”
Dahlhauser also complimented the team’s camaraderie.
“Watching our kids interact throughout the night was a sign of positive things happening as well,” he continued. “They enjoy being around each other and have fun, making it an enjoyable experience. At the same time, we all recognize that we have work to do. and last night helped us see some things we need to focus on moving forward.”
