It was a quick turnaround for Panorama girls basketball (6-1). After playing on Tuesday, Dec. 17, the Panthers hosted West Central Valley (3-4) on Thursday, Dec. 19. Panorama trailed at the end of the first quarter, 9-5, but bounced back with a strong second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 18-8 to give Panorama a 23-17 lead heading into halftime. Panorama’s 10 second-half points were enough to get the job done. The Panthers next game is at No. 15 ACGC, tonight, Dec. 20. Panorama has dominated the matchup historically and has not lost to the Chargers since 2008. That task might be tougher this time around after ACGC’s hot start has earned them a spot on the IGHSAU rankings. If the Panthers want to put the first mark in ACGC’s loss column tonight, expect Crees and Arilyan Steenblock to have their fingerprints on the game. Crees’ 19.8 points per game are the eighth highest in 2A and lead the entire WCAC. Her 9 rebounds per game rank third in the conference, just behind Steenblock, who averages 9.2. The Panthers go on break after tonight and won’t return to the court until Jan. 3 when they host Pleasantville (5-1).
